I have no skills in coding Python, but I was wondering if it is even possible to make a plugin that would show a html5/css3 website?

No, this wouldn’t be possible, sorry. Plug-ins are limited to providing browsing hierarchies, and the media server’s built-in WebKit browser is designed only to allow the display and control of browser-based plug-ins like Flash, not full websites.
not possible? that’s a lame answer……
boxee even has a browser.
You may consider it a lame answer, but it’s also a true one
WebKit is part of PMS, not Plex. It’s not something that could be added via a plug-in, it’d need to be built into the app itself, and while we’ve considered it before we can’t think of a way of integrating full-screen web browsing without it being an awful user experience, given that our “lowest common denominator” input method is an Apple remote. We’d rather focus on allowing full-screen video playback of online content than general web browsing, which seems to be the main reason the browser in Boxee was added (after certain sites blocked the “old” methods they used to access the videos).
Just because Boxee does something doesn’t mean we want to as well - Plex is a media center app, not a web browser
yup i agree, and how about a pdf viewer? pleeeeeeeeeeeeease! ebooks, comics, etcetc. would be so handy!
Only been here a few minutes so I have no experience with developing plugins yet, but would it not be possible to use a flash based web browser? I know it might sound insane to create such thing, but if Plex is limited to using flash there might be a use for it? If the plugin can send commands to Flash that is.
Hi,
I’m currently working on a third party web application for plex server (so not a plugin)
It’s written in php (best portability), and don’t require exotic php extensions.
It use the Codeigniter framework, cause it don’t need a lot of configuration and enough popular for code contributions.
Basically, the app allow you to explore your media Library by reading the server xml feed, download or watch / listen medias (html5 based, so highly depending on codecs used).
It’s still in early stage, so i’ll wait for something usable before publishing sources and roadmap.
I don’t know how much time it will take, as long as i’m doing this on my free time and i have to read more about the plex server API.
Cheers,
Sonotone.
Good answer but what I think most people want from a browser is the ability to get to Amazon Prime , Netflix, PureFlix and such without having to exit the Plex Players on most devices. Since there is not “plugin, client” to get to inside the Server or App.
