Webhook for Plex home user

Since I suddenly had this feeling it won’t be long before the plugin feature will stop working any time (seeing the announcement of stopping support for plugins is now over a year ago), I decided to check out the webhook functionality for Trakt.tv. Unfortunately, here’s the problem I’ve encountered.

  • I’m running Plex Media Server on a Windows platform. The server is signed in with the main user, who has a lifetime Plex Pass.
  • On this server I got one other user (Plex account, not managed user) in my Home Users list: my wife. Her Plex account does not have a Plex Pass subscription.
  • My wife uses Trakt a lot and has a VIP account. I want to configure the Trakt webhook under her user account. This however seems not to be possible, because her Plex account does not have a Plex Pass subscription.
  • When I want to purchase a Plex Pass subscription for her account, it gives me the message that the server she’s on already has a Plex Pass and there’s no need to pay twice…
  • I can ad a webhook to my account (the main / server account) with no problems, but then it won’t register the plays of my wife to Trakt, only mine. We want it the other way around…

Hopefully someone else also suffered this issue and has found a workaround for it?

Take a look at Plaxt 2 is live! Plugin-free alternative for scrobbling Plex plays to Trakt for Plex Pass subscribers and all their shared users!

It’s only requirement is for the server admin to have PlexPass.
In actual fact nobody at all even needs Trakt VIP
(although not a concern in your case)

Individual webhooks can be set for each user to their individual Trakt account.

Thank you for your reply. Seems to be a wonderful alternative. However I would prefer to ‘webhook’ directly to Trakt instead of via another server.

Also it does seem a bug to me. But when I go to webhooks when logged in under my wife’s account in Plex, I don’t have the screen to setup a webhook. Instead I get a message I need to get a Plex Pass. Current server version is 1.18.1.1973

You would setup the webhook under your PlexPass account.
Plaxt allows you to link individual Plex and Trakt accounts. But the webhook still needs the PlexPass user to do the one time set up.

Anyway beyond Plaxt or the original Plex-Trakt scrobbler plug-in (that still works fine for me) you would have to have PlexPass on your wife’s account as you already found out.

Ah, I figured out I can purchase a Plex Pass for my wife using another browser, in which I’m not signed in into Plex. Because previously I seemed not be able to do that, since it always end up in saying the server account already has a Plex Pass.

However, I do wonder if this is supposed be the behavior by design. Because a lot of the Plex Pass perks are related to the server (account), like mobile sync and premium music libraries, which a user as part of Home Users have access to even without having a Plex Pass themselves. I wonder why this particular perk is not also ‘given’ to the users part of the Home Users… Oh well.
