Webos Client?

Locally over Wi-Fi for my own Mac setup. I know this works fine with Plex on the iPhone, and via a client on my notebook, so I had something else to check it with.

Also I was able to bring the touchpad to work with me today. When in plex it can see the media list on the left hand side, but clicking on one of the items just yields plex sitting there and spinning with nothing happening. This is on wifi over the internet connected to a home mac mini using my plex. Works fine on the same wifi network as the mini.

Hi

This app is awesome. Just the thing I was waiting for. x

My information

Mac Mini 2G 2009,

Plex media Server 0.9.5.2

HP Touchpad 3.0.5. 1.7Ghz

Some issues:

Music: Great quality . No issues with my music.

Video:

The result depends on the quality of the video

DVD and 480p Quality–> OK, But Plex Transcoder is working at 150% of the CPU.

720p–>The image is a bit blurry. 480p looks better on the touchpad. Plex transcoder working at 150% CPU

1024p–> The image looks a bit blurry but better than with 720p Plex transcoder at 170% CPU

For 720p and 1024p, Splashtop Remote looks better (It is a different tool, but just as reference)

Not sure if the blurring thing is due to the client of to the Plex Transcoder in the server. Maybe the former…

Wishing list

–>Further support of subtitles. It looks it always takes the subtitle with the name of the film. It is not possible to change or quit the subtitles

–>I think the iphone client has the option to do the transcoding locally. In this case the bandwidth consuption is higher but part of the work is done by the touchpad. Are you thinking on implementing this option?

Please, let me know how I can help. logs? or whatever

Regards.

Try upping your quality settings to something that doesn't kill your WiFi. 4Mbps/720p gives me awesome q

Thx for the feedback, i appreciate it!

you are right. Now it works better :-)

great piece of sw.

New version.

This is what i’ve done:

  • Auto-discovery works only if you have Bonjour installed. If you’re on a windows PC or NASes, there isn’t any installed by default.
  • Ability to add/remove servers manually (IP only, no hostnames!)

Make sure to remove the old version first.

Hopefully, now everyone can join in on the fun!

Installed the latest client on Touchpad 3.0.5. PMS on Win7 box. Under Preferences, I log into MyPlex, put in the PMS server name. Under Servers On Your Network, the status is “online” but the server name is blank. But nothing under the Plex screen, which is blank. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I again see the macbook snow leopard as online server but don't see any channels, I would like to create a log for you. Where are the files located on the mac and what do I have to enable in the plex software to start logging? (Roku sees the mac in the plex channel fine; also using bhome and ps3 media server, the touchpad bhome app can see the folders on the mac although not play any files including any files compatible with touchpad, those same files can be played on the touchpad fine through the pogoplug on bhome)

Hi,

I’ve removed the .ipk from my dropbox.

Get it in the beta feeds in the app catalog directly by clicking this link on your touchpad: https://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?packageid=com.plexapp.webos-client.beta

Thx!

Hi Bobben. I appreciate all of the work you have put into getting this to a Beta phase. Can you please give me a hint as to how to download this to my wi-fi only touchpad? It does not show up in the app catalog and I cannot figure out how to download beta apps for wi-fi only devices. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but I am anxious to try this out. Thanks for all that you do to enhance the Plex experience.

JC

Please please add a WebOs Plex client app that works with Windows.

There’s a million plus of us with Touchpads. 90% of us own PCs and don’t own Macs. Many of us like the WebOs firmware, want it to stay alive, and don’t want to hack CM onto it (which will kill WebOs).

I’ve paid 5 bucks to run Plex on my Iphone and 5 more bucks to run it on my daughter’s Android phone.

I would gladly fork over another 5 to run it on my TP. With the overrated Beats speakers it has about as good sound as you will get from a tab, the same screen as an ipad, and enough processing power to run the client. The TP has no Netflix, and Hulu keeps blocking it. Kalemsoft is ok but Plex is much better. So Plex is the best way to put a million well-engineered devices to good video use. Especially since you can’t expand the memory.

Sorry for the pitch/rant/plea. Thanks for your time and effort.

I have the same setup and same issue

Hi,

Install the latest version by clicking the above link on your TP.
In Preferences & Servers, add your Windows PMS server manually (use ip address when adding) and it's gonna work.

I didn't mean to break stuff for you windows ppl, it just means i didn't test enough, and that's why you've got a beta here, to work out those kind of quirks :)

Hi,

Just tap the link above on your TouchPad and you're good to go!

This is great work! I’m having one issue with it though:

I’m running the Windows version of PMS and I’ve noticed that when I go to into Myplex via a web browser, click on my server, and then click the link that opens up the Plex Media Manager, I cannot access it from within the network.

This is because my router does not support loopback addresses which means that I cannot access anything internal to my network by using my public IP.

For instance, when I click on the link to go to the Plex Media Manager, Myplex forwards the request to

https://<PUBLIC IP>:32400...

The problem is that some routers do not recognize requests to itself using an external address. Whenever I want to open the Plex Media Manager interface from Myplex, I have to manually change the public IP to my server's internal address on my network.

Using the Plex WebOS client, I can browse PMS servers that are not on my network (I have one set up at another location) but I cannot browse the one on my own network.

… It looks like the webos beta client is not available through the app catalog or preware if you live in Canada…or at least, i cant find it. Can someone provide an alternate link where i can find the .ipk please…

Have you activate the dev mode ?

Hi B0bben,

Just wanted to show my appreciation for this beta. Look very promising.

I’m not sure if this is the best way to report a bug I’m experiencing with exploring the library. Depending on the orientation of the device, some series/episodes appear to be missing. It turns out this is not the case as they seem to run off the side of the display. I’ll try a couple of screenshots to show you what I mean. I’ve also tried the width slider thing (don’t know its proper name) but some objects remain missing.

Can’t wait for more progress and thanks again!

Images should be here - unless anyone knows how to upload photos from the touchpad directly?

I can’t seem to download from the link either.

I cannot see any sort of download or install link? maybe I’m missing something?

Does it have something to do with the fact that I have WebOS 3.0.5 and the link states that 3.0.4 is required?

I just fixed that bug last night, will be posting a new version thru the beta AppCatalog soon.

Thx for the report!
