Webos Client?

app is looking great…one thing I’m finding is that it works just fine when I’m local on my WiFi network. I can see my server, it shows as online, I can click sections and can play videos with no problem.

however if I switch to another WiFi network I can still see the sections but can’t open them, the spinning circle just shows. I am logged into my plex account however it doesn’t show my server in the list of shared servers, only in local servers and shows it being offline. This feature works fine on all my other devices outside my home and all the appropriate Ports are forwarded.

my server runs off a mac mini on 10.6 with latest plex server.

thanks for the great app! Now if only someone made a slingplayer app my touchpad would be complete

both are windows 7 pcs

Just added Plex App to my TP. Briefly tested it. Didn’t have to change any settings or anything. Default settings picked up my wifi automatically and saw my channels. I use a Mac Mini as my media center with a networked 3TB WD HDD wired in by ethernet that actually houses all of my files. Audio/Video look great for my TV Shows that I tested. As a heads up, I went to the link given earlier for download of the Beta, and I couldn’t get past it asking for a phone number. I put in my number, it sent me a text with a link, then I went to that link on my TP. It took me straight to the HP App store and let me download it… for FREE. Love it. To make life easier for you if you don’t have the link and don’t want to put in your phone number, here’s the link:

Just go to this link inside the browser on your tablet, download, and enjoy. Thank you so much b0bben for the app and props/kudos to you for developing it. You, are nothing short of a scholar and for this, we applaud you. I only use this on my local wifi connection, so I don’t really know how it works outside of my network.

Plex on my touchpad is a dream come true, but I have no joy.

The Plex client will find my server display the movies and episodes perfectly. When I try to play one of them it goes to the player screen then hangs. I cannot go back or pause or control anything on that card. My only recourse is to close the card. I will be glad to provide logs if tell me how

This is a super app and I cannot wait to get it working. Thank you, for all of your hard work and effort

Update:I got it to work, did another restart then it started working.

The app looks great! I’ve been able to install the app and watch videos from my Plex server both on my local wifi and while on the road using myPlex.

How would you like bugs reported? I’ve noticed a few things:

  1. It is possible to drag the scrubber for the video position beyond the end and beyond the beginning of the bar. This results in an incorrect play position.
  2. Using the scrubber does not correctly set the video position
  3. Resuming videos from any position other than start does not work
  4. Pausing video, switching apps and then returning to the app to play restarts the video from beginning.

Please keep up the great work.

Hi,

Thx for trying this thing out and thx for reporting!

All of your issues are due to the fact that you can not seek in the app right now. Fix for this is coming in the next release of Plex Media Server.
This applies to seeking, resuming etc.

Hi all,

A question: who here has a TouchPad 4G? I would love to know how things work on a non-Wifi connection.

//b0bben

Bought a new router (airport extreme) and now myplex now reports it has an ip address and port. But as with local wifi without being signed into myplex (macbook snow leopard),
my touchpad says the server is online but no files show up.
Would be glad to send you some logs. Can you point me to instructions on how to create?
Thanks.

Next release of Media Server? Seeking works in the iOS client. I'm running the 0.9.5.2 server on a Mac Mini 2010.
Also I'll test the beta on my TouchPad 4G on cellular later today. So far all of my testing has been with wifi only.

Hi,

There are differences in the video players between iOS and webOS. webOS is waaay picky :)

//b0bben

That I know. I've dealt a lot with the webOS mediaserver. But I'm curious what webOS is not able to do or what needs to be added to the PMS that would make seeking work.

I should have mentioned that I also copied the IPK to my Mac (with Enyo installed) and ran the client in Safari. It works just as well as it does on the TouchPad, including the bugs I mentioned.

We're using HLS (HttpLiveStreaming) and webOS media server component needs to have a special tag in the index file that we generate on the PMS side.
Other players don't need it, they're kind of sane about the defaults.

Half of the problem is on our side tho, so nothing wrong with webOS player. It's just picky. :)

Hi all,

0.6.8 beta is out now. Get it thru the AppCatalog here: http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?packageid=com.plexapp.webos-client.beta (or just check for updates if you had an older version installed thru catalog).

Now with more loin!

Actually, this version should bring good news to all who have PMS on their windows/linux machines.

Please report any strange stuff (except video seeking/resuming, which is still broken).

This version is very close to the final version. Seeking/resuming is gonna start working with the 0.9.5.3 Plex Media Server, which is out soon.

Some more polish and it’s good to go

Thx to all testing this, couldn’t do it without you…

Fantastic, this latest version did the trick for me! Client now sees my PMS and streams video. Thanks!

SOLVED thanks the to post up the page. Just send a txt to your phone and use the link in the sms message.

I can’t find this to install in AppCatalog.

Is a regional thing? My Touchpad is register in the UK.

Hi,

No, it's not a regional thing.

The app is only published to an alternative catalog (beta catalog) and one needs an URL to get there.

Should be able to tap on URL above on your touchpad to see it. Dunno why it doesn't work for some of you.

//b0bben

Hi,

The URL above just took me to the page with the send to phone option.

In the end I just followed that and got a new URl, and it installed fine.

Client looks very slick. I have managed to get some media to play but it refuses to play others…well looks like it is buffering then gives up. Those files play just fine on my android and iOS clients.

It tends to be the larger files…like 3hr movies in divx format. Also some times smaller files 600mb again divx play for a while and then just stop. I realise it is work in progress (beta) just wanted to you to know. Plus I am new to both Plex and this client. My home set up is a mess of mediaportal, twonkyvision, xbmc… It works fine and there are features that mediaportal does that plex doesn’t but I would like to move to plex over twonky for the extra features and centralised database. So as it stands I have a htpc, running mediaportal (over myth as there aren’t nix drivers for my dvb card) with twonky and plex running in the background. clients are atv1, openpeak tablet, various android and iOS devices plus this HP Touchpad.

I installed the update and did some more testing (though not with video seeking as I understand I need to wait for PMS 0.9.5.3).

Summary - there seems to be a bug when switching from 4G to WiFi and back when accessing the my server locally and through myPlex.

Device: HP TouchPad 4G
Test: WiFi off HSPDA+ on with 2 bars of signal
First I just launched Plex Client and tried to use the settings I had previously set. I was able to connect to my friend's shared server and browse content.
I was not able to connect to my own server. My server's sections showed up under 'Shared' but I was not able to browse any of the content.
Next I went into the settings and logged out of myPlex and removed my server. Then I logged back into myPlex (which caused my server to reappear).
My server again appeared in the Shared section and I was able to browse content.

Next I quit Plex Client and turned WiFi back on.
Test: WiFi on and connected, server on same network. HSPDA+ on with 2 bars of signal
I did not change any settings from the previous test.
In this configuration I'm able to connect to and play content on my server and the shared server. One anomaly is that even though I'm connected to the same network as my server the sections from my server still appear under the Shared library heading. I would have expected it to move to a Local group.

Next I logged out of myPlex and restarted the Plex client then my server shows up under Local library and I can browse content.
Logging into myPlex again then shows my server under Local and my friend's server under Shared and I can browse content in both.

Finally, I quit the Plex client and again turned off WiFi. When I launched the client again it was back where I had started. My server appeared under the Shared section but I was unable to browse its content.

Conclusion: I think that there is a bug related to storing the connection parameters for a local server that prevents it from working when that server is no longer local but is shared with myPlex. I was testing by switching from wifi to 4G but I'll bet the same bug will appear if you switch from a local wifi network to a remote one.

While testing I observed some UI behavior that feels a little inconsistent with other TouchPad apps -
When you browse down to the show's episode level (usually TV Shows->Show->Season->Episode) you can go back up to the list of episodes by swiping the panel to the right. However, to go back up from the season level to the show level you need to press the back button on the upper left. I would expect that swiping the panels to the right should always work and that the back buttons are not necessary.

This is a great app and I'm thrilled to have it on my TouchPad. I'll be taking my TouchPad on vacation next week so I'll have the opportunity to test a lot of videos over the Internet.

Please keep up the great work!

-J

This now works over local wifi with airport extreme and latest plex app. Good work.
I do not see over internet even though I am signed into myplex and server reported as working. Do I have to set up port forwarding (I thought the myplex takes care of all this).

note: For local files bhome with touchplayer opens more of my video files than plex app but this might prove useful for internet.

Also I see my the video files on my mac. But I do not see any channels like I see with plex on Roku--ie The Daily Show. Does this app provide access to those channels or not seen as needed since we have a TouchPad browser?
