This now works over local wifi with airport extreme and latest plex app. Good work.
I do not see over internet even though I am signed into myplex and server reported as working. Do I have to set up port forwarding (I thought the myplex takes care of all this).

note: For local files bhome with touchplayer opens more of my video files than plex app but this might prove useful for internet.


Also I see my the video files on my mac. But I do not see any channels like I see with plex on Roku--ie The Daily Show. Does this app provide access to those channels or not seen as needed since we have a TouchPad browser?

As promised I had a chance to do some real testing this past week. All of my previous comments about server connection issues still stand.



I connected to my home server through myPlex and browsed the server contents just fine.

I selected an unwatched episode of Babylon 5 (ripped from my DVDs so episode length is about 45min) and began playing it.

At about 23 minutes the video froze. Suspecting network issues I paused the video for 5 minutes or so and then hit play. The video stuttered, stopped, stuttered and then began playing again.

It played successfully until about 40 minutes in and then froze again. I tried pausing and waiting again but was not able to recover.

I switched to my iPad2 Plex client and selected the same video. I was surprised to notice that it was still marked as unwatched and I was not able to resume with the video. However, I was able to use the scrubber to skip to the same time spot and watch the rest of the video.



Network was connected through AT&T 4G with 5 bars of signal. A speed test of the link before watching revealed 4Mbps down and 2Mbps up. Video quality on the TouchPad Plex app is set to 2Mbps 720p.



The iPad2 was connected to a wifi hotspot created by my HP Veer also on AT&T 4G.



A test a 2nd night using a different episode of B5 gave similar results. About 20-30 minutes in the video just stopped. The show was still marked unwatched but I was able to finish watching using the iPad2.



Now that I’m home I’ll try to set up a test to reproduce this and get you some logs.



Has anyone else seen any issues watching more than 45 minutes of continuous video?

I too am finding that videos freeze, somewhere in the 40-60 minute mark. Pausing usually does not recover for me. (I can watch the same video with an Android client (on a Xoom tablet) without issue.) Also, when I relaunch Plex to resume where the video froze, it gets to that resume point with a bizarre form of fast forward–stuttered video, clear voice, and almost 1:1 speed. On the Android client, I slide the button to where I want to start, and after a couple of seconds it plays from that point.

New to Plex but with this client I’m looking foward to giving it a whirl! I’m having a heck of a time trying to get the latest build of the client, however. I was able to download the .zip file linked on page 3 (v 0.6.5) but everytime I go to the links that b0bben has posted I get asked to input my phone number to be sent the file. I don’t have a phone number to provide! Would anybody be willing to share me a zipped copy of the latest client? Or perhaps provide steps for a newbie to download it myself?

After some reflection of what the touchpad does for me, and researching the Cyanogenmod CM9 rom of Ice Cream Sandwich, I saw no reason to keep WebOS and thus this app. I appreciate the hours invested, but I am now using CM9 on my Touchpad with a more stable and robust Android Plex app.

I encourage everyone with a TP and Plex to migrate to Android OS software. It adds value and pleasure to your TouchPad investment.

New and improved in this release:

• Audio and subtitle chooser in pre-play view.
  
  
  
  Now you can choose audio stream (if the video/movie has more than 1) and you can also choose which subtitle to show (if any available on your PMS).
  
  
  
  There’s a major showstopper that’s the only one left (this far) before this will be released publicly.
  
  It’s the bug where you can’t watch a movie longer then ca. 40mins. I believe it to be a memory leak in underlaying webOS, i’m working with Palm to verify.

Kalemsoft transcodes files as well, just like PMS does. Only PMS does a much better job at it ;)

I’ve been using plex for WebOS for a few months now and it has come to a point that it now sits in the dock of my touchpad, as it became one of my favorite app.

Like others I’ve experienced some problems but the overall experience is very satisfactory. The last updates especially were very nice w/ the ability to select you subtitle track and the direct play option.

In the meantime, I’ve been tempted by the CM9 folks, but I really enjoy using webOS (wich has btw a way better WAF than android). Also, CM9 on the TP is unstable and thus not very usable in my opinion. So i’ll stick with webOS for now (hopping for updates from HP -web browser please- and the homebrew scene).



A few questions for you b0bben:

• Do you plan to add Plex channels to the app?
  
• Recently, after all the HP/WebOS fuss, we’ve seen some real involvement of HP in the future of the OS and framework, with the promise that enyo could be used to develop multiplatform software and web applications. Would it be possible to port plex webOS for use in any web browser? It has long been a wanted feature for plex, with a php client already in development. If possible, a plex web client could even attract some talented web dev/graphic designers to help you.
