Noticed exactly the same thing today. Initially thought it was a local problem on my end but considering your seeing its probably a bug.
My client is ubuntu 22.04 physical hardware with a dedicated nvidia mobile GPU running 530 drivers on X11. Plex client is installed via snap.
Closing plex and reopening resolve the problem, for a while but does come back.
@SartBimpson are you also using Nvidia GPU? I asked some folks and they did not have issues but they were using Intel
I’m also running a multi monitor setup (3). They are ips panels at 144hz incase it’s a factor.
Thanks for chiming in boys (or girls). Yes, I’m using an Nvidia GPU, indeed!
Edit: Using a single 120Hz monitor though, so multi-monitors don’t apply for me personally. Also using Nvidia driver 530, yep
Possible to get logs from app so can make report. https://support.plex.tv/articles/windows-mac-app-logs/
Of course!
Plex.log (160,5 KB)
Here is my log for reference. I was able to reproduce the problem fairly quickly (within 2 minutes) by start the plex client and then just randomly clicking around the UI going between movies, tv series (seasons, episodes) and music artists and albums.
Issue started happening around 22:38 so you can use that as a reference.
Plex.log (690.6 KB)
Let us know if you need something else. BTW… issue started with 1.68.2 and did not happen with 1.67.2.
@anon5074910 that is the server log ( which I am happy to add to report as well). do you have the player log
+1. Started on 1.68.2 for me as well
Sorry, was looking at the server logs as well Client log uploaded.
@BigWheel fyi… so far with version 1.69.1 I have been unable to reproduce this white box/square problem.
Just came home and tested, still occuring for me in the latest version. Maybe even worse than in the previous version
Now it’s starting way quicker than before and not only on posters, but it seems on random spots
Ok thanks
Welcome. If you need anything let me know
Yeap, I spoke too soon
Its fairly random and this screenshot was taken just after starting the plex client and going directly to frank in my music library.
does it matter at all if it is full screen or not?
For me anyhow, mine always launches full screen.
@anon5074910 Is your monitor an HDR display? I heard something like this at work once and the employee was using RDP to connect to his machine in the office. He said there were “white squares” showing up all over the place in the remote desktop view, and his HDR monitor was the issue. I think it might have been a graphics card driver problem.
No, not HDR. They are Lenovo G24-20 24" IPS 144Hz 0.5ms monitors.
As with the OP, only noticed this after the update to 1.68.2 and I use Plex for Linux a lot and the video drives have not changed in a number of weeks !
