What about movie reviews from specific states?

Server Version#: Version 1.24.0.4933 on Synology NAS DSM 7.0
Player Version#: Plex for Mac Version 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4

I would like to include reviews from German sources for movies in my Plex database. I’m not sure, if that is possible and if yes - what I have to do.

For now my database has region: GERMANY and language: “bevorzugte Tonsprache: English”. (It works fine, as I like to enjoy the original version of the movies - and most are US…). Still I would like to see reviews for the movies from sources in Germany - but they don’t show – any suggestions?

Thanks for your help
H

Unfortunately not possible, since all sources for reviews in Plex are English speaking.

Dear Otto Kerner

Thanks for your feedback.

I guess the procedure behind the EN-reviews is like an “AI-Agent” searching for key-word “EN-movie-title” & a list of hand-picked EN-sources like newspapers of movie-papers. I guess there is no human man-power involved in actually deciding which review to use and how long the quote can be etcpp.
If this is true, it should be simple to set up an AI-Agent searching for the key-word “DE-movie-title” & a list of hand-picked DE-sources for reviews. If this is true, it could easily be implemented by the Plex-team.

Could you please specify, why you believe it is “unfortunately not possible” to implement such a feature?

This is not so much about “technically possible” as it is about “legally possible”.
Those reviews are copyrighted.
To use them, Plex needs a license.
To simply “scrape” them off a publicly available website is illegal and will certainly be opposed by the their owners.

Dear Otto Kerner

Your argument “legal possibility” might also explain the very short EN-quotes presented for the movies. Which would be a hint that Plex has actually no legal agreement with any content provider but simply avoids violating intellectual property rights by keeping the quote short.

Following your argument and taking into account my speculation there are still two options:
a) If Plex doesn’t pay royalties to EN-content providers why not implementing a system for DE-content (German = DE)?
b) If Plex does pay royalties to EN-content providers? That would make things difficult as I don’t want to increase my payment to Plex. I consider it a service to the product to increase my satisfaction with the product. But if Plex truly has to pay for the DE-content - that would be difficult.
You might argue that DE-reviews might increase the possibility to generate new Plex DE-costumers - but I’m not sure about this.

In conclusion - I would like to hear from the company Plex if they actually pay for the used quotes?

This is pure conjecture on your part.
There are licensing agreements in place for reviews and trailers.

YES, I agree. It’s an educated conjecture. (Educated because I delivered an argument which relates directly to the distinction between quotes for which royalties have to be payed - and short quotes (about one sentence))
But so is your statement: “There are licensing agreements in place”

May I ask for the source of your statement? Are you making this statement on behalf of Plex?
