I notice on my dashboard that some of my TV series show just a solid orange triangle to indicate new shows but other show an actual new show count.
Curious what determines that or what the logic is in what Im seeing?
The orange triangle means that episode or movie has not been watched(it’s new to you)
The count shows you what is the total number of unplayed episodes(new or not, doesn’t matter).
If you look closely you will notice the count is on the seasons and the triangle is on single episodes.
So you have 11 unwatched episodes for season 1 of jimmy neutron. 6 unwatched of season 9 of american dad…etc…

Gotcha but why, for example is Restored by the Fords listed as just the generic unwatched episodes (orange triangle) when I have something like 6 episodes of that particular program still to watch? Why no episode count?
Just trying to understand the Plex logic.
Your screenshot is for “recently added”. Plex cares not about anything else for that category.
And restored by the Fords s02e07 was added therefor will be listed and be flagged as unwatched. The other 6 episodes were not.
And look at island life. It has no orange because you must of watched it but still listed because you just added it.(relative term, i know)
Plex will display seasons when 2 or more episodes are added at about the same time. Can you imagine, have your recently added section being filled by single episodes.
1 modern family, 11 jimmys, 1 restored by the Fords, 1 island life, 6 amercan dad, 8 bobs burgers…etc…
At that rate, you would only see two shows displayed. modern family and 11 copies of jimmy neutron.
Remember, your screenshot is from recently added. To display your “entire unwatched list” would make that section pointless. OnDeck is for that.
EDIT: But I do see were you are come from though. Plex mashes up the properties of the OnDeck with recently added.
Take this Scenario:
- You have 11 unwatched episodes of jimmy.
- You add two more episodes of jimmy.
- Plex will now display 13 in recently added whereas it should only display 2, cause 2 were just recently added, not thirteen.

If you add multiple episodes of the same season of a show within 20hrs of each other . it will combine them into one poster in Recently Added with the count of unwatched so that the entire Recently Added row/hub does not fill up with all the same poster
