What does PLEX even do?

Hi,

I’m new to this forum, but I’ve been browsing for a good few hours now. I might be a complete ■■■■■■, but I’m trying to figure out what PLEX actually does? So far I’ve connected it to my Synology NAS and downloaded the app for my PS4, which was a piece of cake. What I can do is see what movies (and files) are stored on my NAS. Which, don’t get me wrong, is great. I always like to show my friends my great collection of movies.

But when they ask me to play any of the movies I have to disappoint them. There’s no play button in the PLEX-browser nor in the PS4 menu. I thought PLEX was a media player. Is it? And if so - do I need to download a plug-in for the play button of is it hidden somewhere? I honestly don’t understand why it is harder for me to actually play anything then it is to set everything up.

Thanks, flow!

I’m trying to find the play button in my webbrowser and PS4? Like, litereally, the button you press to play media. Where is it supposed to be and do you have any idea what I should do when it isn’t there?

There’s occasional reports about the PS4 web browser not being the most reliable playback experience. When using the browser, the play button should be available when hovering over the movie poster or on the movie’s pre-play screen.

Have you considered using the native Plex for PS4 client from Sony’s app store?
