The refresh library button is something I use constantly because I'm always adding content. Was this a deliberate change or a bug?
In the meantime, I'm reverting to the PlexConnect version I downloaded on 11/3 which has the feature intact.

Probably has something to do with MyPlex and the possibility of having multiple libraries. The same reason search is now library specify and not global.
There is a Plex channel plugin available in the Unsupported AppStore that will let you refresh from inside Plexconnect.
Correct... how would you specify the server to "refresh"?
New content is usually picked up automatically, isn't it?

Automatic, by user set refresh interval or both - TBH if there are issues then it is these PMS settings that should be tweaked.
I disagree, I put the "Refresh Library" in for a reason, some people, like myself have low powered servers and don't want to waste resources having Plex continually monitoring folders or set a manual update and have to sit twiddling their thumbs waiting for a refresh, I like the library to refresh when I want it to, not when I'm told it has to :( But MyPlex seems to be more important and so features that were extremely useful get removed like refresh library and the much better looking nav bar search :(
I'm confused by this issue because after I reverted to the PlexConnect I'd downloaded on 11/3, the "refresh Library" button isn't there anymore either. I DID update my Plex Server to 0.9.8.13.235 a couple days ago (on my Mac), could it be this newer version of the Server causing the issue?

I set mine to update once daily because the auto-detect thing doesn't wait long enough (60 seconds?) so it would begin counting the seconds from the moment I start transferring files into my media folder, then 60 seconds later before the file(s) were fully copied over, it'd scan the library and assume nothing was added. Subsequent scans didn't find the media either because it only looks for media added after a certain moment (before the transfer is completed).
It's possible the Plex devs fixed this issue but it was so infuriating I changed my settings - PlexConnect gave me a nice way to refresh without having to go log into my computer.
Cant you just refresh from plexweb ? Am I missing something?
I've used https://github.com/mikedm139/LibraryUpdater.bundle (also on unsupported appstore) in the past succesfully.
You may have to edit PlexConnect or the bundle to get it to show up since it's an application channel. As far as I know those are not shown yet on the aTV.
Easiest would be to change this line in the __init__.py file in the bundle:
@handler('/applications/libraryupdater', NAME, thumb=ICON, art=ART)
I can post my plexconnect changes later if someone else is interested in application channels without changing plugins .
It shows up without editing anything, at least on my system: imac, PMS 9.8.10, ATV 3 6.02.

Yes you're missing something, not everybody has access to a web browser when they're sat in front of the TV in the lounge on the sofa, I know I don't, so being able to sit on the sofa and press "Refresh Library" in PlexConnect was a great feature for me :)
Okay fair enough. I'm working on my desktop when I add content anyways, and immediately refresh when I've added it.. For myself I can't think of a scenario where I need to refresh when I'm on my sofa.. Does stuff get automatically added to your guys library?
What about accessing plex/web through your phone or tablet?
I get a feeling we may see the return of the refresh button.
Good news: Refresh is back!
Currently in an experimental stage in branch "Refresh" - who had guessed?
In the first library view (showing the sections) press and hold Select on a section heading for a "scrobble type" menu.
There are issues...
- UI really lack some beauty
- No feedback to the user. PMS just refreshes the section - we might need "spinner" next to the section title?
- No idea what happens on remote servers. Or servers that "require authentication" at all.
- Having "Search" there... we could eliminate it from the library view (???)
- Is there any chance to "Search" only a section?
Anyone up for testing and comments?
I tried it out.
First, I would try and center everything similar to how it looks when you press select on a media item and go to mark watched, etc.
Not sure if an in progress indicator is necessary. Wouldn’t it slow down being able to move on to your next task.
I still think Search should be visible and not hidden. Again I prefer to have it in the Nav bar but I still think seeing it in the section list is better than not seeing until you press select on a section title.
I don’t see the need for a section specific search.
Can’t test remote.

Yeah... been there. Looks like a christmas tree. :-D
Keeping the search in the main library (ie not hiding it any better / and yes, I think about how to get back global search into NavBar) doesn't leave much to do for the menu. Would be a "refresh only" options box. Somewhat silly.
How about adding "refresh" as a hidden Select&Hold item? No menu needed. Add the spinner for 5 to 10sec or so to give some visual feedback and call it a day?
I don't like the "hidden" to much, kind of like an easter egg. But might be better looking than the christmas tree referenced above.
Are there ANY ideas what we could/should do on a library level that would force a menu on us?
