What happens to PLEX if you change the CPU

Hi everyone!

I’m thinking of changing the CPU (upgrade to cope with more users and 4k) on the computer where I have all my libraries stored.

Will it affect PLEX in any way?

If so, what will be affected and are there some way around this problem?

REALLY do not want to re-enter all movie / TV series information. It would take months.

//Thanks in advance

If you really only change the CPU, nothing will change. Except maybe better transcodung performance.
But you’ll have to research if you really can upgrade just the cpu. Usually/often replacing the cpu requires you to replace the motherboard as well.
Which in turn can also require you to replace more components, like RAM, PSU or graphics adapter.

You’re right. I forgot to write that I also change the motherboard and possibly RAM.

Will replacing CPU, motherboard and RAM affect PLEX in any way?

If you can get Windows to run again, without having to reinstall it, then no.

If you have a hard drive/SSD to spare, you can move the plex data folder to it. This should enable you to get up and running quickly, even if you have to reinstall your machine.
Just make sure that all your media continue to be available under the same drive letters and folder names they are using now.

Here is the procedure to move the Plex data folder:

Thanks for the help.

Will check this out later when I have more time over.

A follow-up question. I guess it’s just the opposite to do once I’ve changed CPU, Motherboard and RAM?

Opposite of what?
The moving procedure? Generally yes.
But if you like to keep the data folder on this separate drive (if you have a case with plenty of space), then you just need to point the newly installed Plex server to this extra drive.

I have PLEX on an M.2 SSD at the moment and probably want it back here after changing the computer-parts.

This M.2 SSD are the C: on my computer.

Or get a second one

Well ifact it is two M.2 SSD in raid 1, and I only have two M.2 slots. Unfortunately.

Thanks for the help.
