Hello,
I have collected a lot of bugs for xbox client. I am wondering where is the best place to file that bugs? I have a feeling that devs doesnt look often here…
As any software development there should be a bug tracker somewhere? Where is that?
Sorry but is not very serious to have so many bugs in a piece of software and to not be resolved or to not even been filed somewhere.
What for i pay plex pass when bugs got not resolved?!
Yes i understand that… And will try to prepare a list. Unfortunately this going to be long one.
But it is quite strange for me that there is no official bug tracker for that.
I am a software developer myself and for me that organisation of bug reporting is strange.
I understand if that was free opensource software that nobody pay for but that is not the case here. I payed lifetime plex pass and many others did. So i believe it should be made right.
I have found it best, although Plex may not like it as much, when I have multiple issues to prioritize them myself and post separately and only post a new one after the first is resolved or after a few days have past.
If you post multiple problems in the same message people may stop reading after they hit one they cannot answer even though they might be able to answer one further down.
Or a question may go completely unnoticed when the discussion gets focused on another one.
At least that is some of the problems I have noticed with multiple problems in one thread.
Yeah i noticed that behavior here…
That is the purpose of bugtrackers in software development. A forum is not suitable for bugtracking at all and i not understand why plex doesnt have one
None of the media managers, like Plex, that I have seen use an external bug tracker. For some reason they do not want to deal with the users posting to the places where they post bugs for fixing.
I think that is both intelligent and very reasonable, If I were back working in software development I would not want users posting in the area where I was working to track and fix bugs as users would mostly be little more than noise in that kind of table. I would want to hear what they are seeing but I would never want users to know exactly what I was doing or what part of the system I was working in.
In other words users should report bugs but they simply do not know enough to benefit from knowing exactly what is being worked on or how.
The Hoi polloi do not really have any need to know or see what is happening internally.
Users use the software and report problems while developers and official testers know about the internals and test new features before release.
It is just how software development works for a system like Plex.
We do not need to like it and I understand the desire to know more but, for development to progress intelligently the process must be somewhat isolated from the users or you end up with a “system” like RoboCop had in the second movie.
Well developers are first instance of testing, but there should be special QA division that will do final testing. I suppose plex doesnt have that QAs. Otherwise there will not be such a elementar bugs like missing UI elements for example.
I know users can be annyoing and maybe full flaged tracker is not suitable… But this forum is really unconveniant for bug reporting. Besides developers seems not really looking into it.
Did you heard about the problem with “broken phone”? When there is “middle man” always things get lost. Even if there are other developers or technical people here we can not reliably report bugs since sometimes report are not seen or staff get annyoed.
Besides users expect when they pay for service to receive what they payed for.
Ofcource plex guys can decide what they want to do but for me current way is not right.
If we have to wait month a single bug to be fixed… then we users will get annyoed
Take for example Microsoft. They have system for bug reporting for end users that is effective in my opinion.
Ofcource plex is not so big but at least they can stay more in touch with users.
And is not serious staff to get annyoed by bug report by the way. At least they should care for those users that pay for the service
I’ve never used consumer software that had any sort of public bug tracker. Reporting it in the forum and maybe getting the attention of a dev is as good as it gets.
In this case, if it were me, I would first make a post summarizing all the issues. Other forum people may be able to indicate that some of them are already known or otherwise not worth detailing further.
The issues that remain can then be expanded, but I do not know if Plex staff would prefer to see them all in one post, or as one post per problem.
Ok maybe not full flaged bugtracker. But something like end user bugtracking system like Microsoft’s will be better.
I am not against plex. Dont understand me wrong. I just wish process of bugfixing to be better and faster. In my opinion current process is too slow
P. S. I am a developer and i also dont like so much end users to interfere development process. But we have solid QA division. So bugs remaining are not so much. I just noticed xbox app of plex have too much that should have never reach the end consumers version
When you buy a Plex Pass you have not paid for any additional support. All a Plex Pass does is open up a few additional features but it does not entitle you to additional support nor does it give you any extra access. Plex Pass is just an “unlocking” payment and not a payment for greater access or support from Plex.
You can either accept Plex as it is and hope for changes or you can go elsewhere. But I do not think you will find better development, just different.
Plex is still the big dog in the pretty small pack of media management. And they, mostly correctly, only try to please the majority of their users and individuals are not the majority. Remember that it is not necessarily the “majority” as outsiders see it that Plex tries to please it is the majority of their perceived universe.
Hmmm yeah it unlock some features… But the funny things is that features are not fully implemented in all client. In particular xbox app. In general android tv app is much better than xbox one in matter of functionality and usability.
And when i pay for additional function like editions support (its a plex pass feature) i expect this to fully works in the app i use. Or at least somewhere to be written what features app supports so to know in advance is it suitable to pay for that according to my expectations. But the truth is it is not. And when i asked where we can look what apps actually supports i got no answer in this forum.
Thats why i think something is wrong in the way things are handled and i wish to help this to improves.
Ofcource nothing will happen if plex guys nott read or not really answer to topics here .
So things are not really Black and white… I dont say they have to look into every post or to fillfull all user wishes but at least all the apps for all platforms to be equally supported and with same functionality. If that is not possible i expect somewhere to be written what individuals app supports.
I think is not bad that users want to help in testing and will be great help of developers.
Anyway despite my wish to help it seems nothing will change.
I will try to post the bugs and issue i have found and will hope devs consider them
Nothing much has changed at Plex, except in negative ways, for the last 10 years or so and I expect nothing to change, except in negative ways, for the next 10 years unless Plex goes broke and that is very unlikely.
