Obviously. more than one band can have the same name. What is the best way to organize the files in this case?
I don’t know if it is the best thing to do, but when a band name is re-used per Discogs.com, I add the Discogs ID number to the directory name, e.g.:
/music/Band Name (3)
/music/Band Name (8)
This seems to work but as far as I can see, it is against Plex’s rules.
Is there a kosher way to organize these music files without mingling them all under /music/Band Name ?
It is not. Just keep doing it. All you need to make sure of is that all the albums inside one such “Artist” folder are indeed by that one particular artist and not by some other namesake.
To aid matching further you could embed the musicbrainz ID into your files. Picard does this by default.
OK, good, thanks. For some reason I thought the 100% correct thing to do was an Artist folder with the exact Artist name.
(I occasionally add Musicbrainz tags but it is rarely needed if everything else is perfect.)
