What is the best way to report issues with Commercial Removal? Is there a log file that can be provided that would assist with the troubleshooting of a specific recording?

I am noticing that some shows are being handled perfectly. Great.

I am noticing that some shows are leaving commercials either at the beginning or end of commercial breaks. I can live.

But there was an instance last Friday night where a show had 60-90 seconds removed twice from the middle of the actual show, not directly before or after commercial breaks.

It might help to understand how commercial skip works. I think one of the parameters it uses, is whether or not a channel logo appears in a lower corner during a show. If it doesn’t detect the logo, it removes that bit until the logo shows back up. For the most part, this can be fairly accurate, but if the logo mysteriously disappears during a show, it could cause errant behavior.

That’s just one parameter, of commercial removal. I’m sure there are more. It’s not an exact science, but will improve over time. I’m sure there will always be one exception somewhere that breaks things. It’s the nature of the beast.

Good to know. But does the Comskip process leave behind any log files that can be examined after the fact that can point to why there was an issue. If I can see why Comskip decided to keep/drop a particular section, I can tune my comskip.ini accordingly.

Not saying this is the only way but if you want the experts of comskip to help you could manually run comskip and work with their forum directly: http://www.kaashoek.com/comskip/index.php

I have reviewed their forum and the very helpful Tuning Guide. I just need to know how Plex is running their COMSKIP instance, and if there is a way to output any logs/debug from the “commercial skipping” operation they are performing.
