What is the purpose of manual connection setting in android application?

Server Version#: last one
Player Version#: last one

There is manual connection setting in android app. What is the purpose of this setting ?

I can only provide ip address. Not domain address like xxx.tk address

This is for defining a local Plex server, in case there is temporarily no internet connection.

If you want to use an own domain name for your server, configure it as “Custom server access URL” in the settings of the server.

Thanks for your answer.

When you say ‘no internet connection’ you mean if I want to be able to connect at home to my plex server and there is no more access to plex.tv server ?

I thought that to use credential, plex.tv server need to be reachable.

You mean that there is a way to use my plex server without plex.tv server on ? We can be ‘autonomous’ even if plex tv was down or desactivated one day ?

“temporarily” is the keyword here.
Unless you are trying to switch users, you stay authenticated (at least for a while), so you should be able to reach your server just as normal.
If the internet outage is longer, you can instruct your server to not require authentication when accessed from certain IP addresses in the local network. Of course this effectively circumvents any user access restrictions, so you should not enable that for your whole network at once, but only for select IP addresses.

thanks a lot !

just to come back to our first post =>

“If you want to use an own domain name for your server, configure it as “Custom server access URL” in the settings of the server”

what would be the purpose of this as I can already connect my plex server using http://XXX.tk:YYYY

is there an advantage that I’m missing ?

I doubt it.
You might be able to load the local web app into your web browser’s memory from there.
But the web app will then access your server using its automatically-assigned subdomain name in the .plex.directdomain.
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/ for details.

Yes you are right. Each detail is important and I don’t know yet the exact name for each stuff.

Do you think it is a lack of security if I don’t configure it ? I was said security was correct by default. Https used (between webapps and server) proved by the green lock. So I guess this is ok, right ?

There is no need to use it. It is just there for users who think they need it.
