What is the reasoning of the audio naming in all clients?

Hi all,
Does anyone have a good explanation of why Plex developers have decided to present the codec name of certain audio formats instead of the marketing name?
For instance I would find it more esthetically pleasing to have a Dolby Digital logo for AC3 and Dolby Digital Plus for EAC3. I also see in some clients that DTS is named DCA…

Those are trademarked terms

sounds like fair use to me.

ford, chevy, tesla, all trademark terms.

you can still use them freely to describe what you are referring to.

That’s funny, I was wondering the same thing.

And weird as it is, the iOS app used to display some marketing names. I remember it showing Dolby Digital (plus) badges, but a while ago after a huge update it was gone. It’s a shame I don’t have proof!
