Hardware is Lenovo T140S server. 4 mixed disk (non-ssd) for storing movies and TV
I currently have plex server running on Server 2012 on a VM under VMware workstation 12. I was wondering if I would get better performance from running it with a linux OS. - anyone compared the 2 ? or came up with a perf maximising OS ?
Although you might see some pro’s and con’s between OS’s personally the OS you are most familiar with I believe is the best OS because you don’t want to start figuring out how to set a static IP on a Linux box if you never have (Not saying you have’t since you run VMware you are probably familiar, just saying)
I use Linux exclusively myself as from my own experience that OS seems to be more stable and is less susceptible to viruses compared to windows due to windows high market penetration. I also experience no technical issues that would require me to seek additional performance from the system.
