So I mirror kodi and plex together. What NASA should I get when I don’t need transcoding. Want a 4 bay minimum
The ds918+ and da1019+ has gotten very expensive because of korona.
And I feel its pointless when we dont stream to phone. And use nvidia shield with dedicated atmos speakers. So no need to decode audio or video.
Will the ds420j be enough? Since no transcoding is necessary
What synology NAS for when i dont need transcoding?

Just mean all my movies are 4k rips. I have a dedicated cinema setup. Why would I need to transcode? I have used direct play for 3 years now exclusively. But maybe I’m not understanding your helpful tip.
Are you set on Synology? If not I run a QNAP 431P that is 4 bay and generally available for under $500 AUD without disks.
It is faultless as a storage device, I’m running my Plex server on another device because I do need to transcode, but there is a Plex server app available for it
If you know you don’t need transcoding then any one that can run the Plex server at all will do. It’s like saying it doesn’t snow where I live so which car should I buy. Any car can work without snow.
If the need to transcode is a variable that doesn’t matter then I am guessing what you really want to know what is the a decent NAS that is not too expensive. Folks can probably give a better suggestion if you say what price range you are willing to spend.
