My subtitle editor says this mp4 has no subs. MKV ToolNix GUI says the same thing, yet when played in VLC, there are subs no problem.
MKVToolNix GUI Multiplexer shows it as a Timed Text (TTXT) subtitle.
You can also use MediaInfo to analyze the file. The tool has many layouts. I prefer the Text view (View menu → Text).
TTXT is the standard text format supported by the MP4 container. If you import a SRT into a MP4, it is converted to TTXT.

You can use Subtitle Edit or similar tools to extract the subtitle.
The main Subtitle Edit web page is offline right now, but you can download from GitHub: Release Subtitle Edit 4.0.8 · SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit · GitHub
When you extract the subtitle, you can save it in SRT or other text formats.
subtitle edit is what I’m using. the guy even sent me a beta a while ago where you could batch mp4s, but it’s not picking anything up from this file. what version are you using?
and are you doing something different with the MKV Toolnix? what version of that have you got
EDIT: MKVToolNix added ability to import TTXT subtitles in v75 in 2023. If you’re running an older version you’ll need to update.
Current versions, but I’ve used both for years. There is nothing special about the MP4 or the subtitle track. Subtitle Edit immediately imported the info.
Subtitle Edit 4.0.8.
MKVToolNix GUI v88.0. Just drag the file into the Multiplexer window.

I was able to pull it out with an updated MKV tool nix. subtitle edit still says no sub file found, but I’ll get around to updating that eventually. thank you for your help
