Whats the best way to share my server with family that dont have their own server?

Ive just built a server, only for plex. Running freenas, its on 24/7.

Whats the best way to share with family overseas, Can i create different users and give my un and pw, or do they need to set up their own plex account, and server?

Neither of them have a server, or any desire to have one.

whats the difference between that, a home user or guest user?

  • Home users require the username and password of the server admin (i.e. yours), to authenticate their client’s apps/devices.
  • The number of Home users is restricted to 15 in total.
  • Home users inherit some benefits of your Plex Pass, while regular “friends” users do not.
  • (The “Guest” user is just a special kind of Home user, which will wipe its play history when disabled.)

So i think it would make the most sense to set up several different users ie mum, bro, dad, etc etc and then give them my log in details.
Although that would make it annoying every time i log in having to select my own user account

Mainly the right to use the “mobile” apps (Android, iOS) for free.

Every Plex client has a preference called “Automatic logon”. Once activated, it will remember the last-used home member. So you will have to pick your user avatar only once.
