When Apple updates Apple TV to iOS7 on 10 Sept

In just 3 days time, apple will release iOS7

The big question for this forum is, can we update?

I've heard mention of Beta installs, so I am hoping people here have been checking out the development of the new system for Apple TV and can give us an idea of whether PlexConnect will work

Keep our fingers crossed and hopefully Apple will give us option to either upgrade to new Software or not. If given we can wait out and see how it is and then update after we are sure Plexconnect still works.

Just because the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch will be getting iOS 7 soon, doesn't mean the AppleTV will be updated to the iOS 7 codebase as well. Over the years, the AppleTV has often been a version behind the iOS codebase. This is part of the reason the version numbers on the AppleTV don't correlate with iOS version numbers. The current version, 5.3, is based on iOS 6. While we may get new AppleTV software soon, from what has been posted publicly it sounds like the 5.4 version currently in testing is a fairly minor release.

Of course, Apple could always pull something out of the hat tomorrow.

Also the iOS 7 GM hasn't even been released to developers so it's not going to be released to the public tomorrow. Maybe the GM, but not the official release. iOS 6 wasn't released until a week after the iPhone 5 keynote. iOS 5 was a little over a week after the 4S event. See a trend?

The key thing here is that Plexconnect will stop firmware updates by default, you will need to edit settings.cfg if you actually want to update.

I'm not sure about ATV/PlexConnect but I can confirm that Plex for IOS works fine on IOS 7 beta, at least for me anyway.

I can't wait for iOS 7 on my iPad!

5 iPads, 5 iPhones, and a MacBook Air… It’s kind of a big day for me tomorrow lol. Ordering 2 of the gold/champagne. Then there’s Mavricks and IOS 7…

Mavericks is nothing big tbh. And as far as I know iOS 7 for ipad is by far not ready

The iOS betas have included a beta for v 5.4 of the Apple TV software.

Time will tell the final version kills Plex Connect again, but I'm betting on no. I don't think Apple killed the original version out of spite, but because it was a genuine security problem. The current method of manually installing your own cert take away the risk of a third party maliciously hijacking the trailers dns.

There's definately a firmware update coming, probably next week

Though it will probably be 5.4 rather than 7, it is still the first firmware update since PlexConnect was launched

If Apple doesn't block it, we will then know that PlexConnect doesn't bother Apple

Any firmware based on iOS 7 will probably be numbered 6 for the ATV, just as iOS 6 was numbered in the 5s. There are actually reports what was called beta 5.4 is now actually numbered 6.0xxx

Well has anyone gotten plexconnect to work via SSL on a 5.4 Beta release so we know ahead of time if it's safe?

+1

works perefect

I can try it as I have a dev account, I need to know there is a way to restore though?

I assume there would be correct?

EDIT: Seems to be working from this:

>> EDIT: Seems to be working from this:

Beta3 worked at some point, right. This was BEFORE the https disaster, though. No need for certificates and such.

With Beta4 - so reports were - the whole trailers app was broken. Short time after the https request was publicity introduced.

I did not hear/read any updates since then.

If there are unofficial links on the internet i don't care testing the last beta ..

A quick google seach will bring it up...

And yes I believe I heard the same in regards to the entire trailers app being broken.

Though, maybe it was broken because it relied on the https update going out.

Second thought is, worse comes to worse move it over to the WSJ app. They should be releasing a GM soon I would think considering the full release is in 5 days.

No need to think that much. i'm sure the developers or at least part of them will install ios 7 to see if plexconnect still works and what changes needed. just stay here in the forum, the announcements will come :)

No Apple TV GM for developers yet, only iOS 7 for iPhone & iPad.
