When did Plex-For-Windows lose receiver ability?

So, I like to watch shows/movies on my computer while I do other stuff. I can then wrap up, lie back on my nearby bed to finish the show. If I want to do any controls inputs, I need to either get up, or use a wireless mouse and aim the now-tiny pointer around.

A year ago, I found I could use the “Select Player” icon in the upper right of all my apps to “cast” the video to another device. I found with my iPhone, I could “cast” the video to my PC player app, and use it as a handy remote control. Pausing, skipping around, or even selecting new videos was a breeze using that.

However, I just tried it today. My PC Plex-For-Windows is not showing up as a viable receiver. I know I used to be able to control it before. Checking the Casting, Flinging, & Remote Control article, it does not currently list the PfW app as being a valid receiver.

Did they remove that recently? Why?

It looks like they did remove it.

Yeppers. I somehow missed that discussion. Seems it all went downhill fast anyhow.

Have you considered streaming your media to the Plex HTPC app?

I’d have to either be using the HTPC app already while I do other things on my computer, or transition apps from PfW to HTPC mid-show when I finish and go lie in bed. Either way, it’s less convenient than being able to remote control the PfW app right off.
