Cannot cast to Plex for Windows App

Server Version#: Version 1.27.1.5916
Player Version#: Version 1.47.1.3086-6c3d964f
Windows Version#: Windows 11 Pro (21H2) 22000.739

Recently i’m unable to cast from my Android App to my Plex for Windows App. This used to work, and nothing I can see has changed on my network. Both devices are on the same WiFi SSID and in the same network subnet.

If I open Plex Web Player on the same PC in Chrome then I can cast to that, however cannot see the Plex for Windows App.

All the Plex apps & server are on the latest versions. There were no Windows updates but there have been Plex updates since this stopped working. Not sure if one of the Plex updates broke this functionality?

Additionally it would appear the Windows App has removed the functionality to use F11 or \ to toggle fullscreen, and now only relies on clicking on an icon up the top right. Was this intended removal of functionality to remove keyboard shortcuts?

This was a recent change.
Plex is pushing the Plex HTPC app as remotely controllable target.

From Plex for Mac, Windows, and Linux - #63 by Moussa

Version 1.46.1 has been released for Plex for Windows, Plex for Mac, and Plex for Linux.

NEW:

  • Remove support for being controlled as a companion player. Use Plex for HTPC for remote control playback on the desktop.

According to the shortcuts listed in the app this is still working (using f or \). At least that’s still working for the Plex desktop app on macOS. I think F11 is using a native functionality of the operating system (Windows) – I don’t think Plex has any influence on that.

They removed that feature; they want you to use Plex HTPC for companion.

Thank you for the heads up @tom80H

It just sucks they would remove a feature from the app just to force us over to one designed for TV’s and not at all friendly for Desktop users.
