I know that Plex deletes empty folders in a library, but I want to know when. I set up a test with 3 folder. Empty, a zero byte file, and a 1 byte file. I wanted to make sure a zero byte file is sufficient. But it’s been days now and all three are still there. Can someone tell me when Plex does these folder deletions? It there some periodic maintenance task?
As far as I know Plex never deletes folders, only files and then only when specifically instructed to do so.
To be deleted the file(s) must have been part of Plex’s library at some point and you must tell Plex to delete them and you must have allow file deletions enabled in the settings for your server.
It does. Your message got me to thinking, so I did some more experiments. I determined it happens when one deletes the last file in the folder from a Plex client. EG I have one file named “the.big.bang.theory.s12e05.1080p.web.x264-tbs.mkv” in a folder “The Big Bang Theory”. When I delete it from a Plex client, it deleted the file and the folder. I created a zero byte file file “New Text Document.txt” in the folder and performed the experiment again and it did not delete the folder. Mystery solved. Thanks for helping my suss it.
