I have a DS718+(ram 6G),when I play HEVC video with ASS/SSA subtitle. playback is not smooth. If I disable this HW or disable the subtitle, then play no problem.
The biggest reason why I purchased a plex PASS is because of this HW. This situation is really frustrating for me now.
Using srt subtitles can avoid the problem of Caton, but haven’t your programmers tested it? some HEVC video with srt, subtitle out of sync on IOS or APPLE TV. I have iphone X, ipad pro, apple tv 4k.All have this problem
Subtitles burning requires the CPU to do the task. The CPU in the Synology is not fast enough to do it. The GPU will transcode the video fine but the CPU is only really good enough for audio.
Check the client settings: Make certain it’s not set to Burn all subtitles. You only want it to burn Image Formats
What you’re experiencing is a “holding it wrong” problem. Just take your time and experiment. There’s a lot to learn
If the CPU isn’t powerful enough, why it can decode it when HW is disable?
BTW， if I don’t burn Image Formats，some subtitles out of sync（ I have seen several reports on this issue on the forum）.and the style of ass/ssa will lost.The strange thing is that android tv/roku can display correctly, only IOS and TVOS can not.
