When iPhone in lock mode, does Plex change video streaming to audio streaming?

Sometimes I stream a video to my iPhone, but I put my iPhone in lock mode (and therefore only listen to the audio with the iPhone locked).

I was just asking myself: in this configuration, does Plex revert to streaming audio only, or does it actually stream the video, but only the audio is coming out of my phone? I am a bit worried about the bandwidth and monthly 4G plan, as streaming audio should take less data than streaming video ?
