The Plex app for Apple TV struggles with a lot of video files. Low frame rate, stuttering or won’t play them at all. Especially 4K content.
I’ve heard explanations on regulations and restrictions from Apple, but other players (like Infuse) can play anything. Why won’t Plex?
You found your solution, use Infuse.
use Infuse in direct mode to plex.
you get a much better player app without all the bloat the plex app has.
Yes, Infuse is technically a better player. My post was not about alternatives but why Plex ”forces” their community to rely on competitors? I find that a bit strange.
Why not join the beta experimental Player testing. It’s free and agro free…
because plex is no longer a local media server/client product.
it’s now more interested in providing their own content, serving ads, and data gathering to sell
look at who their recent investors are to see where their priorities now are.
Competitor? Infuse is neither server, nor competitor. PlexMediaServer is a server. Infuse is just a client that talks to their server.
Infuse can directly play movies from a network share, so Plex is not really necessary for it, but it’s not the purpose here
As far as I know, they are working since March 2024 on the implementation of the Apple TV Metal API on Plex client.
This should fix the performance issue at the end, and open the door to the new features like Dolby Atmos support, etc.
