Can you make the source of the logo configurable? I tried to upload some logos for my collection to thetvdb in my own language, bur because of their strict rules (if the logo is the same eve if the movie or series name is the same in your language) they removed the whole set. Of course because there is no logo in my language plex can not download anything for me.
Themoviedb also provides logos. Could you please check it is it possible to add this as a logo source? In this case this feature is useless for most of us who not using the plex in English.
Thanks,
Yes, please add some configurability to the logos. I have an extensive foreign language movie collection and I painstakingly have manually added the original language theatrical posters wherever possible. I get that I’m a niche use case, but at least adding them to Local Media Assets (https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220677-local-media-assets-movies/) would let me come closer to restoring the UI experience that I’ve now lost.
Welp lol, but I guess this is the first in a line of decisions prioritizing media corporations over users (since logos in Discover and Plex Rentals will be perfect, while home media users don’t even have an option).
We do validation on the images to ensure they’re the correct aspect ratio and that they will be clearly visible and not too dark. This is probably the reason why you’ll see some missing ones even after refreshing the metadata.
Do we have an estimate on when we will be able to disable these logos?
I want text back because the logos look like absolute garbage and do nothing to show me what film or TV show I’m viewing.
Whoever made this decision to force these logos onto paying customers must have been trying to copy another service to put on their LinkedIn profile for a new job instead of dogfooding Plex.
I’m in the opposite camp: I love logos and want logos in more places like the pause screen: but different people want different things so it should be a toggle
What is critical is the ability to change the logos, and the option to get them from the filesystem like posters and fanart.
I like them too and just want to be able to fix them when necessary like I can with posters and backgrounds. I know they’ve said it was planned to be there but Experience Preview is now expanded to Roku and Experience is the production release on mobile now so…?
I can see the appeal of being able to turn them off for text only too. It’s just that on Roku it looks weird when there’s no clear logo because the fallback text is so small there’s a big gap where the UI is still expecting the logo.
Most of them look like that’s exactly what was done and generally those seem to work pretty well (if they don’t knock-out too much of it as alpha channel in the process). I’d be down to contributing to TMDB with some now that they’ll be used in Plex… new “kill some time, help community” task.
Why would you waste your time doing this ? Plex has proven in the past with posters, fanart and profile avatars for cast members that they no prioritise these from online sources like tmdb. They now use a third party company to get most of the artwork and its only a matter of time before they do the same for logos.
I spent countless hours, with close to 70k edits on tmdb including uploading artwork which plex no longer use. Plex has little to no interest in community metadata.
If your willing to help tmdb, then GREAT have at it and that will help that community but don’t do it to help plex. Based on past experience they will shift away from it at some point …
I’d doing it for me who is using Plex … I’m not doing it for Plex.
If I make logos for missing or ugly ones myself anyways why not put them where they can be shared or sourced? TMDB is easier in that respect compared to TVDB (and more traffic than fanart.tv).
I realize Plex isn’t what it used to be and have lowered my expectations. Plex sourcing art from their licensed partner is not nearly as reliable as TMDB sources for default art … but I can still pick options from those sources via Plex Dash on my phone from my couch while browsing Plex on Roku so if I can do that with Logos then that’ll be useful to me. If I might have to make my own sometimes then sharing them will make it easier for the next person.
Or it’ll be there if I switch to another media server that uses TMDB logos.
I realize you put a lot of personal investment into Plex over the years - which has helped the community and me - so I get why having a lot of that work tossed aside is so frustrating. You switched to Emby over it. I haven’t hit that level of friction yet. I dunno why you seem to attack other users over their choices to try and make it work.
