Where can I find recommended settings? Audio skipping

Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592
Player Version#: 3.108.2

HI all,
I have PLEX pass and honestly haven’t used it all that much so I though maybe I would start and get some of my BluRay library on my NAS (WD PR4100).

Everything I copied yesterday using MKV (which worked in the past) has issues with playback, either with audio skipping or audio and video “chunks” just missing from the movie.

When I have something on playback it says it is playing it locally and is proven for the video from that IP of my side of the firewall but the audio states AAC - Transcoding and I don’t know what that is or where that is (local or streamed) and don’t know where it is setup.

So, I’m trying to figure out is there a setting that is wrong or has something else occurred somewhere that I’m not aware of? This has been a painful waste of time as I ripped about 6 different BluRays yesterday (all action genre) and they all are substandard in playback.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Cheers,

If the Plex client does not support the audio format in the movie, it will be transcoded by Plex Media Server to a supported format.

What Plex client are you using to play the movies (PC, AndroidTV, SmartTV, etc)? Make sure it is up to date.

What audio/video formats are in the movies? Attach the text output of MediaInfo or Plex’s XML analysis of the movie. See Investigate Media Information and Formats for details. Save the XML information as a text or zip file. The forum does not accept .xml attachments. Drag the file into the compose window to attach. It will insert at the cursor location.

What is shown in Plex Dashboard -> Now Playing when you are watching the movie? Is the audio or video transcoding? Attach a screenshot if possible.

Consider updating your version of Plex Media Server. Current versions are 1.19.5.3112 (public) and 1.20.0.3181 (Plex Pass / beta). 1.16.6.1592 was released in Aug 2019.

Make sure tonot use a web browser to play.
Install Plex for Windows or Plex media player.

FordGuy and OttoKerner,
Thanks for the pointers.

When I had updated the Server firmware I thought that is all I needed to do but now with these updates and pointers it works great!

I will do some more testing but so far it is seemless.

Again, thanks so much.

Cheers,
