Im curious if there is a “look-up site” where I can see which cpu that will work with Linux with HW transcoding or not?
Im thinking buying a new Cirrus7 with a Desktop cooling cabinet ( Extreme cooling ) with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285T .
Will put Proxmox Ve on it and run a Linux distro which hopefully support hw transcoding . This processor is from Q1 2025 so I dont know if its too new and drivers aint supported yet or Plex supports it?
It used to depend on whether or not the Intel chip supported Quick Sync, but I’m not sure if that’s still true. I know chipsets that do are good, but I don’t know if there are more included beyond that, now.
Long story short, if you DO see Quick Sync, you’re good.
Arrow Lake and Meteor Lake CPUs, using the latter 5.15 / 6.0 + kernels should be identifying it correctly and enumerating it correctly in mainstream Linux.
Pretty sure we tested this some time ago in the 1.32.8 timeframe.
Either way, it will be supported when FFMPEG 6.1 and the new drivers/codecs come online.
Proprietary kernels like Synology (XPEnology) are not likely to have support for it.
I do not. Chris, team, and I were discussing the schedule before they went off site. I know they’ll discuss more while away. I’ll be briefed upon their return.
As long as you see the QSV enumerated in /sys/module, follow it through to the PCI bus slot, and see it terminate in the CPU, then you’e got the kernel support you need

I must say - its a BEAST. Running insane fast my new CPU and hw transcoding works so good. Seems that my server is “bored” when I force 5 x 4K movies . Insane . Havent tried what the cap is. But I should be able to CPU transcode 18 x 1080 p without problems . GPU no clue
Just want to report back the the Arrowlake is working fine
