Where do we report Plex scanning issues?

The Lost World - Jurassic Park (1997)
Jurassic Park III (2001)

No matter how I rename (this is 3rd time - copied from IMDB directly) Plex keeps on scanning and picking it up as the same movie…

Yes I removed files, cleared bin, deleted bundles, plex dance twice…

Is there a dedicated place to report this to plex?

Remove the hyphen, it doesn’t belong there.
Then perform the Plex Dance.

Your use of a ‘collection’ folder may be also part of the problem.
If all else fails, do it by the book:

movies /
The Lost World Jurassic Park (1997) /
The Lost World Jurassic Park (1997).mkv
   Jurassic Park (1993) /
      Jurassic Park (1993).mkv

Once again, followed by the Plex Dance. Then add each movie back individually.

If it is an mp4 you might have embedded metadata. You can fix that most of the time by moving “Local Media Assets” to the bottom of the list is the settings for “Plex Movie” under “Agents.”

It is also possible that all you need to do is “Split apart” followed by “Fix incorrect match”

BTW: My matching is perfect and I have the files named:
“The Lost World Jurassic Park (1997).mp4”
“Jurassic Park III (2001).mp4”
so naming does not look like your problem.

As far as “reporting” goes these forums are the only place for Plex support so you have reported it.

@OttoKerner Thanks Otto will try without the -

The reason for the collections folder is simple, i have right now 4167 movies total, the collections folder is simply there to get some order in all the chaos… It is logged as a separate folder in library with /collections being a top folder to scan so it wont see it any different

EDIT - Well screw me blue, for all the complexity that Plex handles, it got screwed by a hyphen… Thanks @OttoKerner

Another scanning issue - Plex default Scanner

an update to this request…

As per another scanning issue I logged, these might have been due to wrong tt-id within a .nfo file local to the directories… Plex should not be scanning local media assets when below other scanning agents, but it seems to take a shortcut… Plex knows about this and is following up…

I disagree. It should absolutely be doing this. Because the .nfo file trick is sometimes the best method to ensure a good matching, when there are several movies with similar title in the same year or when the movie title is unusual or starts with numbers.

did you see mitch’s reply to your comment there saying it didn’t work?

I disagree with your disagree… as in your references post, Plex Scanner should be doing all the work, and yes if you cant rename your files correctly then it is on you, but some people have left-over files and those shouldnt influence Plex Scanner…

Also, if Plex scanner is reading my local files to find out what movie it is, why doesn’t it then also use my nice proper backgrounds/posters… This to me is black or white, not somewhere in the grey area where we have no control of what is being used or not…

Local Media assets = use everything
Plex Scanner = get your own from cloud

not Plex scanner - do half a job and then go get the rest…
