Where does the Plex media metadata come from now and how can we correct it at the source?

(Searched for the past 30 mins here and online and can’t find the answer but I assume this is something that has been discussed. So thanks for any assistance in helping me find it)

When something is wrong with Plex’s metadata for movie or TV, how do we correct it at the source?

Just watched Monster (2023) (Japan) and the Plex description is terrible, leading you to believe it is about a mysterious lake and all the children going missing. Misleading descriptions can take you out of the show as the expectations end up distracting from what is happening.
Before the plex agent, we could correct the online source if something was wrong but I don’t know where the source is anymore. The description in Plex doesn’t match IMDB, Themoviedb.org, or thetvdb.com. All of them have good descriptions (though one tells a bit too much) so it didn’t come from one of those sources. Just need to know how to correct Plex for everyone when there is incorrect/bad metadata.

There are multiple movies called Monster. which one?

Sorry, was editing it as you were asking the question as I realized I didn’t specify which one (Monster 2023 - japan)
Though of course the question isn’t just about this title, it is about any title as to how we report/correct issues like this.

You report it right here like you did. But I need info.

For movies data generally comes from TMDB, IMDB or IVA. TMDB being the only one I think a regular person would be able to edit anything.

Both Monster (2023) - IMDb and Monster (2023) — The Movie Database (TMDB)
have accurate descriptions though the latter is probably the best as it doesn’t give away too much.

That isn’t the description on the main page. It is “A mother demands answers from her son’s teacher when her son begins acting strangely.”

Why would plex pull from “storyline” instead of the main page summary? Good to know that is where it comes from but is that were plex generally pulls from? I’ll set up a IMDB account if so. I don’t generally see Plex descriptions that are too bad but this one is.

It just always has as far as I know. I honestly never gave it much thought personally since I am not one to read summaries.

I’ll pass along the feedback to our metadata team though to possibly use that shorter description.

Thanks. I would think shorter in general is the safer bet as it would give less chance that the summary has spoilers.

I created an account and submitted a request for this specific “Summary” to be deleted. They have a third Summary that matches the ones on Themoviedb and Thetvdb. If IMDB deletes this summary will Plex dynamically pull from one of the other two or does it do a one-time snapshot of IMDB data and store that in your own DB? Curious for this edit as well any any future ones.

We pick up changes about 48-72 hours after it happens generally. Sometimes caches get stuck or other random reason it might not update but it should.

Probably because these are frequently dreadful, particularly in other languages than English and on non-English films. They might even be created by (bad) automatic translation.
