Where does the Programme Guide get it's 'extra' information?

I note that the TV shows section retrieves guide information from thetvdb, however show data in there such as an episode cover, are not necessarily in the programme guide. I’ve added some to the TVDB just as a test and unless there’s a delay of some kind…

At the bottom it says gracenote, so not sure if that’s where it’s from or not.

Would be great to have some good metadata for the programme guide as it’s full of missing cover entries for example.

Thanks.

This can be a bit tricky sometimes, but from my understanding, there is some metadata pulled from TVDB (and I’m not sure about movies, I’d guess either IMDB or TMDB) where Plex is able to match it. However, it can be difficult if you have shows with the same name in the guide, or other missing data which makes it difficult to match. This will improve over time, but for now, once you’ve recorded an item, you can match it (or fix an incorrect match if necessary) in the library.

Thanks, I note that even if I add a show manually, with covers etc to the TVDB, it does not add it back to the programme guide. In NZ, a huge amount of programming is missing covers, which does make it more difficult to visually see what is on and what to record. I appreciate that matching them must be a bit tricky and not sure what the solution is in this case. I assume no ‘ID’s’ are passed via the Terrestrial Signal that could help.

@marshalleq We have the same problem over here in Australia, where the guide data isn’t always great at providing IDs, or has missing / incorrect information (our networks here aren’t very helpful).
