I have a lot of cartoons that I’m recording for my kids and the TVDB.com gives me all sorts of issues since each recording OTA is actually 2 half episodes put into 1. This has always been an issue. Is there anyway to keep the Program Guide data with the recording and not try to match each recording with TVDB?
I’m going to try it with the Agent assign to the Library as Personal Media.
I asked about the Personal Media Agent and Program Guide data the other day. Haven’t gotten an answer yet. From what I see so far though, the Personal Media Agent does populate the episode information with the Program Guide data.
I would like to do the same thing! Please report back. I would like to keep the Guide MetaData since I record from french channels.
Also, I installed a separated version of Plex Server, only for the DVR. It record the shows and place them in the folder monitored by my other Plex server. Is there a way to keep the guide metadata from one plex server to another?
Yeah you have to use Personal Media Shows as the agent or else the other agents will butcher everything. I just created a separate library with this setting for the kids recorded shows to go into.
The issue with conflicting metadata has been reported many times on here but I’ve never seen any reply at all from Plex or the devs.
I created a new library for DVR TV Shows as an experiment. I’ve set the Agent as Personal Media Shows. This retains all program guide metadata as it was downloaded. (I’ve yet to try the enhanced metadata, as it sounded like it might break some things). With the cartoon shows, I just manually add the posters, background, banner, and description. The episode data is perfect as downloaded from the program guide.
For the normal TV shows (non-cartoons), I just match the show to the TVDB entry and everything else is taken care of. I feel like this is the best solution as of now.
One thing I’m not sure of is if I process and replace the files to remove commercials, if it will mess up the program guide metadata. But I typically don’t process the cartoons since there are never any commercials in the middle and it is less work to do nothing.
gdunbar, maybe I’ll move my kids shows into a new library. Do you know if we are able to transfer between libraries easily without losing the work I’ve already done?
I’m running into an issue where the regular TV shows that I matched on a series level in my situation outlined in the previous post are unmatching whenever a new recording airs. New recording retain their episode information, but ones that were previously matched now have no information. I may have to split out the cartoons from the regular TV Shows to solve this. The manually matched shows are remaining as indicated.
Late to the party, but hopefully arriving with good news. Apologies in advance for duplicate replies. I see there are several threads asking the same thing and want to make sure they see the same thing.
In the DVR settings you’ll find an option to enable Enhanced Program Guide. It uses TVDB when that feature is enabled. Try turning it off, as then it should use EPG.
