New Plex Web 2.6.0 update disables ability to control dashboard order. Where has this setting moved to? I want to see my recently added column at the top of the page.
Indeed.
Features deemed unnecessary by upper management are thrown in the bin.
The trip to the dark side is finally complete.
Iām not a fan of upper management making decisions when the user community wants more control not less!!
Apparently this is what happens when investors begin calling the shots:
I expect the nice little Plex we all knew is going to be very different very soon. Itās interesting to note that Plex is becoming more and more like Netflix and Amazon complete with almost every conceivable user annoyance that can be coded in and making it increasingly difficult to find anything to watch unless you land on something to buy.
What makes you think investors are calling the shots?

Google is my friend: Plexās Grand Plans to Become the Center of Your Cord Cutting Life
It just seems weird to me that theyāre gearing us up and training those button pushing skills making us wade through dry hole after dry hole within our own media⦠Why?
Netflixās goal is to lead you around and around in their collection of limited titles that youād actually watch making you wade through a few titles that you may watch plodding you through even more titles that thereās no way youād watch so you think there is more stuff there to watch than there really is.
Amazonās goal is to lead you around and around through absolute crap so when you land on something good - and buy it by mistake - itās cheap enough that you just say F-it. Man that money left your account at the speed of light, but getting it back is going to move at glacial speeds.
Plex has us all lubed up⦠fingers pushing buttons in Call of Duty on a Game Pad Pace and one day that āin app purchasingā agent is suddenly there smiling to cure all our problems⦠with the simple push of a button⦠that youāve probably already pushed.
Yaāll think those Plex Pass subscriptions are going to send everybody to Tahiti? Oh⦠no⦠itās going to take all of us working together to pull this one offā¦
(alright⦠Iāve had enough fun⦠lol)
I am in favor of most of the latest changes, however I just want to see my recently added at the top of the plex web home screen. I am tempted to downgrade to 2.5.9 until the order setting is re-enabled.

Didnāt see anything in there that indicated investors are calling the shots. Just the āCā guys.
We pay a subscription to promote development of the software. They should be listening to the user community.

Yea, me too, but before I start reversing server versions Iām willing to give Plex a reasonable time frame to address reasonable requests⦠like yours and this one:
Why is there no longer any love for Movie watchers?
At any given time I have as many as a dozen movies in progress. Until yesterday and the shock and horror of 2.6.0 I had three (3) ways to find these movies I had left in progress: The sane On Deck listings for Plexweb, RARflix for Roku and Plex Classic for Roku (not really an option, but available nonetheless).
Today I have 1 real option left - RARflix - the last sane On Deck list left in the Plexiverse.
I have brought this up many times only to have it fall on deaf ears, but being a glutton for punishment Iāll go again.
The Continue Watching hub is quite useless and now itās glued like the unapproved naked beaver tattoo on your teenagerās forehead to the front end of Plexweb. Yes, it contains Movies left in progress, but it also contains TV Shows left in progress that take up precious space in those 3 meager slots.
On Deck only contains TV Shows and the next episode in the queue. No more love for Movies there.
So in the following scenario, if one were to put on the thinking cap, one could see the problem:
Letās say Iām using FireTV - the favorite and strongest of my devices - I decide to continue watching one of the many Movies I have left in progress. I hammer my way via a maelstrom of remote clicks back to the front end to find Continue Watching. Sadly, Continue Watching contains two TV Shows I left in progress and one Movie I am not in the mood for just now. I know I have at least 10 more movies in progress, but in these, my golden years, dammed if I can remember what they are.
So⦠here I sit⦠what are my options?
-
I could hammer my way via a frenzy of remote clicks to one of the 15 movie libraries on the server, more maddening remote clicks to bypass discovery hubs gone akimbo to get to Browse All, puke when greeted with the dual horizontal list from the depths of HELL then employ the field glasses to try and find the movies with the teeny yellow bar that indicates a movie left in progress.
-
Get up from my comfy perch, walk to a network terminal, fire up Plexweb to a sane On Deck listing⦠oh⦠right⦠thatās gone now, but since Iām here itās easier to see the little yellow bar, but I have 15 movie libraries so as I find them itās necessary to employ a pink post-it note and a pencil.
-
Switch HDMI ports to the one with the Roku connected and fire up RARflix - the last holdout for a sane On Deck where finding movies left in progress is so easy itās almost euphoric. I then wonder why I even bother with any other Plex apps, but that means leaving Fire TV - my favorite device - to gather dust.
Epilogue:
When Plex developers, upper management, or investors (pick one) make it so hard to find your personal media (that used to be so easy it was the sole purpose of having Plex in the first place) that one has to use an app that is not supported and no longer in development something has gone horribly wrong with the Plex thought processes.
I am certain Plex could come up with a way to display all our movies left in progress, but at this point Iām really afraid it would just be more Rube Goldberg style intricate and complicated pathways that lead directly to the front doors of the local asylum⦠instead of just putting those back in the On Deck listing where they belong.
Iām starting to think Plex has lost itās way. No, correction⦠Iām certain Plex has lost itās way.
I agree JuiceWSA. The PLEX developers need to stand up for themselves and make some decisions that may not be very popular with the investors, and I donāt mean the user community. We are investors too by paying the subscription fees.
I posted a while back with a suggestion that the dashboard have added functionality added so that new release movie trailers and upcoming DVD release trailers be added to the dashboard. I never got a single response on the post. Iām not one to watch movie trailers when I want to watcha movie so if they were on the dashboard if one caught my eye I could check it out.
If this was an Apple product I would have to settle for what they give me, but its not!!! There was nothing in the release notes saying that the dashboard was removed, just that the web interface āhad a new lookā. Not a fan of the new look if that means I loose the ability to customize the product. The idea is not to be a Netflix or a Hulu, thatās why we bought into PLEX!!!
Okay guys - bring back the old Dashboard options! Enough with this April Fools stuff!
and the counter on the movie page with the number of movie!!!

Iām seeing that. If I wasnāt Iām sure I could come up with 800 words to describe my ire.
Further investigation reveals it comes and goes⦠reloading the page does eventually bring the number back⦠then just as quickly⦠it toddles off again.
Not too good (thereās 3 words - for now).
yeah no number, so annoying
Confirm. Comes and goes on its own whim for me.
Also discovered that if you edit meta data in a movie file and do a refresh on the item in the movie library it wont update correctly every time. I had to run a full scan on the library to fix it. Not impressed with this release at all!!! the beta testers must have been the same ones that tested IOS 9.3.1. That thing is like Swiss cheese!!!

Iām pretty sure the beta testers are⦠us.
I could have used less of a witty upgrade narrative and more of an upgrade worthy of its name.

On the upside here⦠it appears there is no longer a 200 item limit to the āRecently Addedā filter!!!
This is great!
