Where is my genre? (Music Library)

Why it is Plex does not allow for “Track Genre” in Smart Playlists? Since Plex screws up Artist Genre and likes to make up their own, it would help a lot.

The simple answer to your immediate question is: there’s no option to filter tracks by genres because in Plex, tracks don’t have a genre field.

The answer to your implied question is not so easily answered… I believe the underlying reason is that the metadata source used by Plex is not offer that particular data on track levels (only for artists and albums).
There’s a feature suggestion asking to add that particular field to tracks as well.

Well the issue was that a random artist who had all of their tracks properly ID3 tagged from a genre perspective was actually in my library with NO Genre associated with them.

Plex offers no way of searching for Artists with NO GENRE (unless you can tell me a way) so I have no way of knowing whether or not I am missing an artist or an artists tracks from a Smart Playlist due to a missing Genre association.

It’s possible but ugly.
You can use an advanced filter to determine all tracks that don’t match any of the available artist genres in your library. Depending on how many genres there are, this will be quite some work.

Before going down that road you might want to look into one of the 3rd party options… I cannot currently verify this but I suppose Export Tools might be able to export the artist genre information and allow you to filter for those without a genre.

So no “easy” way to just view ANY/ALL ARTISTS (not tracks) with NO Genre associated with them? My tags aren’t something I am worried about being screwed up since they aren’t. It would only be what PLEX does with them that would cause this issue.
