Where is the custom profiles directory on Ubuntu Server?

I am using a modified iOS.xml profile. I’ve found the main profiles directory at /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles/ and modifying the profile in there works.

However the changes appear to get over-written when upgrading Plex.

I’ve read it is possible to have a user profile directory for custom profile files that will override the system profiles and won’t be replaced when upgrading… but I can’t work out where that directory should be

I’m using Ubuntu Server with Plex installed with a .deb from the Plex Pass channel

Thanks

The Plex apps now report their capabilities instead of using pre-defined profiles.

This mechanism means that profiles aren’t really needed anymore.
The base profile is augmented by the communication between App and Server

Hi Chuck

My question was answered by hthighway’s post, but just FYI:

I’m editing the profile because of a situation when the app apparently doesn’t accurately report its capabilities. I have AirPod Pros that support spatial audio. The Plex legacy player will utilise spatial audio, but if the source files are in DTS Plex transcodes them to AAC which loses the spatial audio - not sure whether because it’s downmixing to 2.0 or some other reason. By editing the profile to make the transcode target EAC3 I get spatial audio with all my 5.1 source files.

I’m sure Plex will fully support spatial audio eventually, but in the meantime having the ability to edit profiles is really useful

@matt99

Thanks for clarifying the use-case.

I have the regular AirPods but don’t play much music through them.

The AirPod Pros are on a completely different level, and they are amazing for watching videos with surround sound :slight_smile:
