Where’s the play button?

Totally new to Plex and am extremely frustrated. Trying to watch S1E12 of outlander which is supposed to be free but can’t find the flippin’ “play” button anywhere. Lots of other useless stuff— trailer, cast, etc but no way to play it. Would appreciate help. Have tried on safari, Firefox, and app, all on my iPhone.

Why do you think so?
Was it announced somewhere that it’s available for free on Plex?

Plex is not an all-encompassing streaming service.
Many items that you find listed on watch.plex.tv are not available for direct streaming. This is a kind of catalog, which sometimes provides direct access to the video, but often only contains links to other streaming services which might have it available. Which streaming services are shown is depending on your geographical location, as well as which streaming services you might have favorited in your plex.tv user account.
And this can change drastically if you use a VPN.

And sometimes there is just the title listed with no way to actually stream it. In this case, Plex will at least allow you to put it onto your Watch List.

I think so because Plex advertises that it is. Is this just click bait advertising? Under “where to watch” it also has Plex, but that text doesn’t link to anything, presumably because I’m already on the page.

From where is this part of a screenshot?

A Google search of “where to watch outlander for free.” It links to Plex; the plex app says it can be watched on plex under “where to watch” but that’s where the frustration starts: plex leads me to a dead-end trail. It feels like either a click bait scam, or really bad app design.

There’s an old post with a similar query in which the poster says something like “Christ on a cracker! Where is the “play” button?” which expresses my frustration perfectly, and also indicates to me (a retired process consultant) that Plex is losing a significant amount of potential business: not because of free/not free but because of bad design with no explanation, just a dead end. Instead of thinking “oh, darn, I must have misunderstood” then find something else to watch, we look and look and look then get so frustrated we delete the app.

Availability is very different, depending on from where you are accessing plex.tv
It might just be that it is available in the U.S. but not in your country.
Apparently, Google has crawled the U.S. version of the plex website.

I’ve asked the content team and was told that the movie is available on Plex.

Policy of availability by country is very useful to know, thank you. I would suggest that Plex add that if something is advertised as free, then a clear disclaimer in the item’s access area when that policy is triggered (rather than the bizarre absence of a “play” button) would be useful. Clarity for the customer.

Thanks for figuring this out for me; after 4 hours to re-watch a favourite, I’ll give up now and stick with the books.
