Hello,
I want to buy in the black Friday a new nas only to plex.
I see only 1080p resolution.
someone can help me to choose one?
Will you be direct playing your files?
I have a DS 918+ (four bays, to get nine, you need the extension bay).
For 1080P it’s usually great, although there’s a Plex Media Server / Synology issue currently resulting in blocky, messy video from time to time.
If you plan to stream 4K in the future, make sure your player (TV, media streaming box etc.) has a gigabit ethernet connection.
What is mean direct? I use plex server only in my lan. Did you recommend ds918+? Or maybe snap?
Diect Playing means that your NAS doesn’t need to transcode anything because your Plex Media Player APP (on your TV or computer) can handle the native video format / container and sound.
Transcoding takes quite a bit of work and CPU power from the NAS.
Check out Synology’s NAS Selector.
As long as Plex (the Android TV APP) is screwing up my Clone Wars even though it should be able to direct play them (h264 video and AC3 5.1 audio along with PGS subs), I can’t recommend Plex on Android but if you use VLC everything should be fine. VLC chews almost everything (although, again, this app sucks on Android TVs).
I think I will buy the ds918+, What is the best solution to use plex on xiaomi streamer? Or install in my LG smart tv?
