Running plex server on an outdated NAS (TS-459, QTS4.2.6)

I have plex player installed on a roku, but to stream from the QNAP TS-459 it requires Plex server 1.18.3 or later. However, the TS-459 is stuck on QTS 4.2.6 with no more support which maxes out Plex media server at version 1.9.6. I’ve tried installing manually but the later versions of Plex media server require QTS 4.3 to install, so no good. Is there a way to circumvent these limitations so that I can stream from the NAS to the roku? Some ideas I’ve had, but have no idea whether or not they will work, include trying to force the latest plex updates (somehow) to the NAS, manually updating my NAS firmware to at least QTS 4.3 (even without support, again somehow I don’t know) or downgrading my Roku plex player version to accept the similarly outdated server version. Any ideas on how this can be done?

Server Version#: 1.9.6
Player Version#:

You cannot do what you want to do.

  1. QTS 4.2 does not have a new enough version of glibc. The minimum required glibc version , as of PMS 1.15.0, is glibc 2.18.1 (2013-08-12 release).

  2. When QNAP released 4.3, they discontinued the 32 bit platforms. Plex discontinued support for 32 bit QTS platforms at QNAP’s request.

  3. Attempting to force update QTS will likely brick it (unless you’re a QTS development engineer who knows how it works)

Best recommendation:

  1. Let the NAS be the NAS it is and accept that.

  2. Run PMS on something else which is supported (Nvidia Shield , RPi 4, something)
