Which tuner is best?

I’m planning on buying a tuner, but I’ve never used one before. Would like to get opinions on what people generally feel are the good ones. Unfortunately, I set my server up on my main computer because it’s the fastest (core i7). Can I use the PC if I’m recording a show? I’m also still looking for instructions on how to record using Amazon FireTV. If anyone can point me in that direction, I’ll be most thankful.

HDHomeRun is what I use.

I use a HDHomerun Quattro, the tuner itself works very well.

More is involved than just saying I7, there are some rather weak i7s out there. Mine is a I7 5820K with 16GB RAM and recording 2-3 shows does not peg my processor heavily and I can still AAA game at the same time.

I gave up on the Firestick as an interface to any media but suspect the Plex app has not been updated on it yet to include the ability to schedule recordings. Do it from a browser for now.

I have the HDHomeRun Extend. It’s a two tuner, over the air box with built-in transcoding. The built-in transcoding offloads workload off of the Plex server. Recordings are stored as h.264 instead of mpeg2 and look great. I’ve got one Plex DVR server that is a low powered Seagate Personal Cloud. It’s had no problems recording two programs at the same time with the Extend. The only thing that would be better for me is if they would make a 4 tuner Extend (fingers crossed).

I also use a HDHomeRun PRIME, Its the cable card 3 tuner. It works great…
