Which TV Tuner Is Right For Me

Hi, I am trying to get plex TV working for a few channels that I dont get with DirecTV Now and wondering what the best tuner would be. I have Xbox tuner from hauppauge but not sure if thatll work right with my server, I run plex on my FreeNAS server. Would I need an HD Homerun instead?

See the tables of Supported DVR Tuners by location in the Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas Support Article.

Let me put it this way: HDHR’s are the only officially supported tuners.
And with a HDHR you don’t need to worry about driver support – even if you change to a whole different hardware platform with your server.
So, in my eyes, you can’t do wrong by getting one.

I’ve been using HDHR for years and love it…
I’d suggest an HDHR.

I’m running at STB with HRTunerProxy installed on it, which also works fairly well, emulating what real HDHR hardware would do for you.

Thank you, guess thats what I am going with, from looking around on the forums, some people prefer the Connect over any other version due to its transcoding. I don’t know if I want to spend $180 on it new, the Duo seems more like the way to go since I also have the power of my server (12/24 CPU). If I decide I need four tuners, then Quatro is probably the way to go since no other versions have the transcoding.

Make sure you select a model that suits your HF connection. (over-the-air vs. cable)

Will do, I want to check out if my area received free basic cable without a cable card, I know years ago we did just not sure about now. For the OTA, I really would only be accessing one channel then that I do not get why my streaming services, The CW.

well, you won’t have to worry about driver support with HRTunerProxy running on an Enigma2 STB either… On a sidenote, I’m currently more concerned about only the server admin being able to schedule DVR recordings…
