While creating music playlist, Plex 'autofilled' my entire music collection

I’ve created several music playlists in Plex, some more than 1,000 songs, and never had a problem. For a new favorites playlist, I was going through all my 3,200 songs, sorted by artist, and selecting roughly half the songs for the new list. Because the list was so large, this was occurring over several days. When I got to the ‘Rs,’ I noticed that my favorites list had become my entire music collection of 3,200 songs; it’s like it autofilled on its own. I’m trying to figure what went wrong so I can avoid this in the future, as several hours work just went down the drain. Any theories out there, or similar mishaps? If it makes a difference, my entire music collection is stored in one folder on my hard drive.

So you were multi selecting various things or going one at a time and adding to the playlist? ALso which app were you doing this in ? the web app in browser?

I’m using the Plex web browser app in Edge on my PC, and I’m typically selecting and adding between four and eight songs at a time.

Are you ever using Shift key to select multiple in a row? ( I’m just trying to think of ways to reproduce)

I typically didn’t use the Shift key to select multiple ones for this list, though I may have on occasion. However, I have used the Shift key in many other lists, and I’m aware of how that works. To select all songs, I always thought you would have to highlight the first song and then manually scroll down to the last song. I’m not aware of a Select All option. It seems like I would have noticed if I had accidently picked a Select All option. Is that actually an option in Plex, and, if so, how do you activate that?

Random thought: if you inspect the playlist’s thumbnail, does it have this cog wheel overlaid on it?
grafik

No, I’m not seeing a cogwheel. It displays as a normal thumbnail image.

There isn’t one.

Yeah that is the way. But there could always be some bug around that is why I asked.

I appreciate the questions, and I think we’ve narrowed it down to where I didn’t accidently hit a Select All option, which I’ve learned does not exist. And I haven’t heard of other people having a similar problem. Is there anything you can recommend I do moving forward so I can avoid a similar problem?

maybe make a smart playlists. like make one based on number of stars on a track or the genre or other tag. I hate to say only add one at a time as if you are making huge playlist that could take forever.

Thanks for the suggestion.
