White flickering or flashes in darker scenes

Hello. Looking for some help here. I am getting a rather poor picture quality on Plex when I use my Apple TV or Xbox to view on our large screen TV. The issue is most pronounced when darker scenes appear, and we get flickers or flashes of white rather frequently (every couple of seconds).

When I play the same files direct from my computer to the TV, and use either VLC or Plex Home Theater, the picture is much better.

I’d rather use the Apple TV as its a simpler setup for the family to use, but I do find its an inferior picture by doing so. I do have it set to direct playback with no transcoding in all cases.

Any ideas?

Try turning off any auto contrast adjustments on the TV. On my Samsung It was in the advanced setting tab and called dynamic contrast. Worth a shot.
