Slight video flickering issue

Hello!

I’m having an issue with slight video flickering, I was hoping you could help me with.

Here is my setup:

NAS – Qnap TS-253A connected with HDMI to A/V Receiver – Marantz NR1501 connected with HDMI to my Samsung TV.

When I play any file for example an .MKV (H.264) file that is lossless (from DVD) using makemkv, the audio is fine but the video shakes just a bit. You can particularly see it when text is on the screen. Also, there sometimes occurs slight artefacting. If I cut out the middle man (the A/V receiver) it’s still the same.

If I play the file through an Ipad, Macbook or Android phone (at original quality) it looks great.

I read through the audio configuration guide and this helped me get from super speed playback with no sound to my current situation.

My Plex audio settings are everything is unchecked. If I check one or many options I only get worse results (super
speed playback with no sound).

I am running the latest Plex server software 0.9.15.2.

I’ve tried restarting Plex and rebooting the NAS.

Is there some setting I’m missing? I’ve spent quite a lot of time troubleshooting this and I’m getting to the point where I don’t know what to try next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven’t been able to pinpoint the problem, but my setup works with kodi, so looks like a Plex problem. It’s a pity since I don’t like Kodi and would prefer Plex. Would even pay for the extra features… Anyone?

I am having the same issue and have done the same steps as you before checking here. I agree that it appears to be an issue with Plex as Kodi works on some files I tested. Ive been through all the settings (I think) and have got the flicker down to a minimal amount but that as good as I can get it all other changes just make it worse.

If any one has any ideas, they would be welcome

@climbingmike Good luck!

Pity there doesn’t seem to be any interest/support from Plex (this is after all their forum, that they refer too for “help”). I would be interested in the Plex Pass features too, but obviously that’s not going to happen if this cannot be resolved and support for future problems seems bleak.

Me too, I’m having the same issue… :frowning:

Sorry to dig up an old thread. I was having a similar issue and brought this up through search.

Not sure if it’s the exact issue the OP was experiencing, but mine was a slight flicker while streaming but only in certain scenes. The issue was most prevalent on highlighted and well exposed shots (like horizons, white walls, etc.).

Mine turned out to be a simple fix. In my TV settings (Samsung 55” forgot the model) there is a “dynamic contrast” adjustment in the advanced tab. I overlooked this option a few times as my advance settings tab was greyed out due to my picture setting. I had to switch to standard picture mode, which allowed me to opened the advanced tab, turned off dynamic contrast, and wala.

Hope this helps those who have the same issue I had. If not, well good luck :+1:.

Thanks for the post.
