simple feature that can be implemented, same way how we can tell who is watching, we should be able to tell who is converting
I’m not sure what you are asking here… You want to know who is transcoding your media? Or who is forcing a transcode from a sync request? You can see that info now. If you are watching when the job hits, you can see it in the “Now Playing” or “conversion” status pages when the job is made.
You want historical info, you need to install PlexPy. http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/169591/plexpy-another-plex-monitoring-program It only requires Python 2.7 to be installed to run, and if you are running Plex, installing Python should be easy to do. Most platforms that run Plex come with Python options already.
It’s too bad that the controls that could be used aren’t available, until this functionality is a part and parcel of the Web App. We can hope that with the original PlexPy Dev now a part of the Plex Dev Team itself, this happens, soon. We’ll see how that plays out, though.
Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (the “Now Playing” will show information on the playback type, e.g. direct vs. transcoded w/ or without hw acceleration)
