Why are users considering to use folder view?

Curious slightly off topic. Why do you manage it from the folder view rather than library? Just preference? Are there more options in folder view?

I assume that you mean search, not library. One big reason is that we drop a bunch of files into folders and want to watch it right away. The file isn’t searchable yet. Another reason is that I have my folders by year and most of the time that I am just perusing, I do it by year whether I am looking for an 80s flick or some 40s film noir.

I moved this into its own thread, given it’s indeed quite off-topic for the original thread.

I suppose the (now) OP was indeed referring to the library view and displaying that library by Movies instead of Folders… basically referring to the basic features of Plex where you can filter/sort your library by various criteria based on metadata instead of how they’re organized in your file system.
That’s got nothing to do with searching (though your post makes me wonder why your videos shouldn’t show up in a search in the first place… it’s not like there’s a delay)

There’s a number of perfectly valid reasons to organize stuff in folders.
I do however have a hard time following all the examples thrown around in the forum

Because I have a giant library organized exactly how I like it. That means I have 870 albums with approximately 12,000 tracks in them. I have organized those albums into folders as I see fit, and I want Plex or show me the the albums that way!
I suspect this is VERY common for Plex users with large libraries.
An ugly alternative is to use genre and other tags in the files to organize the stuff. But this doesn’t actually help you organize the actual files. So people with large collections organize the music and video files in folders as they choose, and the usually want the player to show them the music in the same way.
