So it appears that only the owner/admin is able to download files via the web interface.
If I enable the guest account or create a managed user, the Download File option isn’t available.
There is a specific option in the managed user settings to enable downloads, which I presume is for other clients. Why does this not also enable the downloading of files via the web?
Scenario I have is friends who occasionally access my local network and want to download files from the server via the Plex interface, which is fine. At present the only way I can do this is to grant them full admin access and just trust they won’t start deleting things or otherwise causing chaos.
“Downloading” refers to using a file in a Plex Player (e.g. Plex for Mac/Windows, iOS or Android mobile). I suppose it’s a bit misleading – especially as admins can also download their files from the server itself (using a “regular browser download”).
This is no configuration problem.
Plex simply doesn’t want to be used for spreading files and get linked to any file-sharing.
