I have a Plex Pass.
I have 2 XBoxes (using separate accounts), a few computers, a couple of TVs, and a few iDevices, all using Plex.
I have no issues with linking the iDevices and computers, i.e. I only have to do it once.
But the XBoxes have to be linked every 2 to 5 days, and a few times I have had to do it more than once a day.
About 3 to 4 months ago I had to link my XBoxes for Plex once or twice a year, but now it happens all the time.
What has changed?
Why is this required?
I am the only person in my family that has access to this and if I leave for work in the morning the rest of the family cannot watch Plex on the XBoxes until I get home at night.
This is not a situation that works for our family.
This morning, less than 12 hours since the last link, I was asked to link it again - or rather my wife was while I had gone to work.
This means she could not use Plex all day, until I got home from work.
It was asking to link every 2-5 days. This week it’s every day. Today I’ve been asked to link twice in 12hrs. GD ridiculous. Why is Plex silent on this issue so Long?!
One Xbox, one plex account, Xbox on, logged in 24/7. Watch plex, switch to a game, go back to plex, LINK! So effing annoying. Persistent Authentication is NOT NEW TECHNOLOGY!
It seems that problems like this don’t get acknowledged until the thread really blows up with hundreds of furious users.
I don’t have an XBox but I assume it’s running Windows. The Plex program should be in one location and your Plex user data will be separate. My guess is that your user data is being lost and it’s like Plex is opening for the first time after that happens. This may be a problem with the XBox, I’d start with a full reset if it were my XBox. After starting fresh, if the problem persists, you’ve mostly ruled out your device.
Failing hard drives can cause data corruption and loss, XBox One’s came with hard drives and they aren’t spring chickens anymore.
EDIT: I’d actually start by removing Plex and reinstalling it, then move on to a full reset. Also, is your storage close to being full?
I have 2 Xboxes with the same problem, I hardly think it is the fault of the Xbox(es).
I have uninstalled and then installed Plex again.
Storage is nowhere near full. The Xboxes were bought for Plex.
The Xboxes are using two separate Xbox logins, so there is no issue of one bumping the other as I saw mentioned in another thread.
To me it looks like poor implementation.
I used to use Plex on my iPhone as well, and I have had zero issues on the iPhone. I have even gone through a few different iPhones over the years.
I have the same stupid hassle, re-linking my account every 1-2 weeks on the Xbox One app. With other apps (e.g. HBO Go) this might happen once a year, but it’s a recurring annoyance with Plex.
All my settings get wiped too. Devs, how can this be so hard to fix?
