Why does everything work but the iOS app that I paid for?

Server Version#: 1.22.0.4163
Player Version#: 7.14.1

So hopefully someone can hit me with the clue bat and this is an easy fix.

I have a synology. I run plex on it inside a docker container. I can access the plex server content with the roku devices in the house, streams …etc no issues. I can access plex on any web browser and it streams , no issues. All running on wifi.

however I can’t make the iOS app that I paid for work. I have reinstalled per the automatic email reply to my support request telling me this fixes most issues.

I still can’t see any of my content on the iOS devices. When I open the iOS app my plex server in the server shows as offline for a hot second whenever I start the app, but then it shows it online with no selections available.

if I try and create a manual connect to the plex server it gives me a 401. why I don’t understand, but there seem to threads explaining that this was crippled out and disabled intentionally for reasons not given. I’ve added the wifi range to auth’d allow list in plex config, but that has not helped. Can someone explain to me why being able to make a direct server connection on iOS devices is now prevented intentionally but the option still exists in the app ?

When using the iOS app, I am able to stream from remote plex servers that are shared with me, just not my local one.

basically super frustrated user that paid for iOS to work, and everything but the one device class I paid for works fine.

any final help before I go try and get a refund though the app store?

Disable secure connections maybe?

@BigWheel,

Thank you for making a suggestion.

However, This does not appear to have any affect in the iOS plex app allowing me to make a direct connection or in allowing it see any content from the plex server.

It appears from the Apple App store reviews I’m not the only one who sees this the iOS app behavior.

Can you explain to me if allowing remote access is part of the critical path to allowing either direct connections from an iOS device to plex media server or for the iOS device to see the media from the plex media server ?

Remote access it not required to connect locally.

If your iPhone/iPad is running iOS 14 you might have to allow the app to connect to device on local network.

I should have mentioned that I had checked that setting and local network access is allowed to the plex app. still get a 401 reply from the local connection attempt. still can’t see any of the content from the local plex media server, just see its name in the app.
